Switching from Mounjaro to Wegovy

Very slow loser (12 kg out of 95kg with BMI 35), been on Mounjaro for 1 year (15mg for six months) and have completely stalled for the last five months. I’m thinking about switching to Wegovy. Has anyone tried this switch and had any success stories? Do I need to go through the whole consultation process with my provider (Medexpress)?

just looking for any hope as I’m so dismayed seeing all these rapidfire success losses all over this forum.

Were you calorie counting, in deficit, eating high protein and low carbs and drinking lots of water?
I'm a slow loser too around 1.1lb a week, in 4 months lost 1.5 stones 83kg down to 73.8kg. Its disappointing. Soon to go up to 10mg so hope that will help

Absolutely. Eating within 1600 calories, low carb, low sugar, zero alcohol, high protein plus exercise.

I have switched from Wegovy to Mounjaro and back again. I am a slow loser on both. My provider made me have a month’s gap between the drugs and start from the lowest dose each time and I seem to be a quick gainer when I am off the medication. Mounjaro has better weight loss statistics and if you are getting on well with it I would say it’s probably not worth the disruption. You might have worse side effects with Wegovy. I guess it might work better for you for weight loss and you won’t know unless you try but is seems unlikely.

CerealPosterHere · 16/02/2025 08:01

Yes I thought mounjaro was the better drug. I could understand switching from wegovy to mounjaro but not the other way around? Though I’m in the same position as you, keep ordering the 15mg mounjaro and feel I’m just ripping up £200 a month atm

DarkForces · 16/02/2025 08:04

Have you checked whether your calorie allowance has reduced on your new weight? My daily one has dropped to less than 1400 so I need to be less than this to drop any significant weight (I'm short though)

MoggetsCollar · 16/02/2025 08:10

If you have maintained for 5 months at 1600, then 1600 is your maintenance calories. There are plenty of people on here who have to be at 1200 or even lower to lose. I'm not on WLI, but I'd gain quickly on 1600.

I would recalculate your calorie intake and TDEE. I eat around 900-1100 cals a day. My maintenance is 1700 approx. Also exercise builds muscle so could be why scales haven't shifted? Drink plenty of water too. Maybe include measurements of chest waist and hips as you may see physical changes. Mounjaro is the better drug, higher losses in trials, safer and more effective so look at other changes you can make first

Theresacatinmykitchenwhatamigonnado · 16/02/2025 08:26

I am not a little sparrow, but I'd never lose on 1600c. Maybe reduce calories for a few weeks and see if that makes a difference. My ideal calorie intake to lose weight is under 1000 and I'm still only losing 1lb most weeks.

LostMyLanyard · 16/02/2025 13:38

1600 calories sounds a lot to me and I'd gain eating that. I'm 5'4 and currently 14 stone (have lost 2 stone in the last 8 months, so I'm a slow loser too).

I aim to eat around 1300 a day, which I still feel could be reduced further (however I'm miserable eating less so I'd rather lose slowly than be miserable!)

MissAnthr0pe · 16/02/2025 13:54

When you lose weight your body needs fewer calories to keep going, so your TDEE reduces. Wegovy won't make you lose more if you're sticking to a fixed daily calorie intake. As others have suggested, reduce your calories further to lose more.

TheGreyBee · 16/02/2025 19:51

Yes. 1600 is a lot of calories if you are struggling to lose weight I’d stick to between 1000 - 1300 depending on how much you already weigh.

LaurieFairyCake · 16/02/2025 19:55

My maintenance is 1000 calories maximum (still losing veeeeeerrrry slowly at 800)

Zempy · 16/02/2025 19:58

I suspect 1600 calories is now your maintenance level.

I would gain on that.

Mysticmaiden2024 · 16/02/2025 20:56

Yes after rechecking your first post, you started on 95kg and lost 12kg so down to 83kg, which was my starting weight and I had a deficit of 1300 so I'd advise reducing to that and you will see the shift soon. You've most likely been maintaining on 1600

Chucklesisters · 17/02/2025 09:03

Thanks all, very helpful! I’ll start lopping off 200 calories to begin with (more sustainable since the suppression on 15mg isn’t great) and track over the next several weeks.
