Need to get out of low calorie trap

I've been a bit stupid and now I need to get myself out of a situation I inadvertently created.

When I first started on MJ I got really high appetite suppression and couldn't eat very much - this was on 2.5mg and then 5mg when I eventually moved up as the starter dose stopped working so well. I didn't try to make myself eat all the calories I could have done, because I figured that I was trying to reset my relationship with food, and listen to my hunger cues, so forcing myself to eat when I didn't feel like it would be counterproductive. I was probably having less than 700 calories per day, and I did have some big losses over the first two months.

Now I'm on 7.5mg and my hunger has come back somewhat, but I think my body has got used to managing on very low calories, because if I eat more than that, I gain weight. I calculated my TDEE and it's just over 1800 calories (I'm old and sedentary) so I should be able to eat 1300ish per day and still lose.

Have I permanently messed up my body's ability to process normal amounts of food? Or do I keep on eating at 1300 calories and hope that everything eventually resets itself? I still have a BMI of 27 so I don't think I'm at the plateau stage yet

And yes, I know I haven't been very clever and I don't advocate for people eating barely anything.

Yes. I would probably increase calories to maintenance level gradually and then drop back down and you should start losing. It’s probably not fat gain that you’re seeing either so don’t stress too much about it.

You need to exercise regularly and build muscle so that the muscle uses energy (calories) even when you're resting/asleep.
