Has anyone had bloods done when on Mounjaro?

I got bloods taken yesterday. Went to see about maybe starting HRT and the nurse took bloods too- not for checking hormones as I’m over 45, but for liver function, and lots of other things I didn’t actually take in, just a general MOT I think. She didn’t ask if I was on medication and it didn’t cross my mind to mention it, but maybe it should have! I’ve got a message to make an appointment to see the nurse so something must have shown up in my bloods. Would the Mounjaro skew something to make it look concerning? I’ll happily tell the nurse and GP I’m on it, am kicking myself that I don’t think to say incase it’s made it look like something is wrong with me.

Anyone got any experience of it?

I did, it was for a high BP medication review. No one asked me at the time, and it did not occur to me to mention it. My results, including liver function, were all normal and my GP would have been aware I was on Mounjaro as that information is on my NHS record. I think if it was vital to mention it for blood tests, that it would be made clear in the patient information leaflet.

Do you have the NHS app? You can view test results there, if the GP has added them.

Thanks, that’s reassuring. I don’t have the app. I don’t know my nhs number to sign up to it. Will just need to wait and see.

I did 2 months into MJ, my liver function tests ALT were a little up, got retested 2 weeks later and normal. Apparently this can happen when losing weight.

Cholesterol was 4-something and was 6something previously, HB1AC slightly down, everything else. normal.

I had them done incidentally after about 4 months. Everything perfect but a little low in folate. On the FB groups there are loads of people saying how much most of the markers have improved.

I doubt they've processed the bloods and sent the results through to your gp yet if they were only taken yesterday!

I thought that too which was why I was a bit concerned to get the message today asking me to make an appointment. Maybe the lab is having a slow week so got through it quickly.

I had bloods taken and got the results same evening. I was impressed about how super efficient it all is now!

Some results like iron are quick to come back. I’ve been called same day when I was anaemic.

InfoSecInTheCity · 04/02/2025 22:21

I've had results back within 24 hours often, some of them are just really routine and get processed almost immediately.

I have had loads of blood tests done because I was prescribed MJ for Diabetes. Nothing on the tests flags that Mounjaro is being used but if you've had a routine panel, that should include:

  • thyroid
  • cholesterol (and other lipids/fats)
  • liver function
  • kidney function
  • HbA1C

Hope your appt goes well, remember they do these tests to catch and treat things early and most of what they're testing for can be treated through simple medications like a Statin for high cholesterol, diet and metformin for diabetes/prediabetes, medication for hyper or hypo thyroidism......

So if they have seen signs of a medical condition, it's good that they are proactively testing for it, and that they want to address it quickly too.

IME, being called back that soon means that something has gone wrong and they need to repeat the tests. Tests mislabelled or stored in the wrong conditions or similar seemingly basic things seem to have quite a lot at our surgery.
I have an annual medical which includes and had one a couple of weeks ago for the first time since starting MJ 8 months ago and my BMI reducing from 30 to 25.5. Everything is fine and most markers (especially bad cholesterol) have improved.
