Mounjaro and work

Hi all.
I am currently off work with flu, it has knocked me on my backside. I have been ill since last week. Still have a temp and chills and sleeping pretty much all day, However when contacting employee they have asked, out of context if I had done my injections thus making me believe they were questioning my injection rather than the flu being the reason for my illness.. I hadn't actually done my jab as not feeling well enough, however can an employer ask these questions? If I hadn't off been open about the injections in the 1st instance they wouldn't have known?? Just find it weird they would ask about this? Any ideas and do you think I should mention it on my return to work?

Why do they even know about you being on MJ? I haven’t even considered telling my work. It’s none of their business

SilenceInside · 03/02/2025 16:38

Did your HR know because it was a cause of you being ill previously? I can't see why they'd know otherwise.

It sounds like they were doubting the reason you were off?

@ThatsNotMyTeen thanks for answering. A few of us where overheard speaking about it as a few or us are on it. However she is normally very personable. I am just concerned why she would mention it in the 1st place x

@SilenceInside I have been very lucky and had no side effects other so far. Haven't been this unwell for a long time that warranted time of sick. I have no idea where it came from. X

Who is it that contacted you? Your manager or an HR person?

I hope you didn't answer them on that question, and I would ask them to clarify if an overheard conversation has led them to store medical information that may or may not be accurate and not willingly given on their employer systems.

It is a strange question if it hasn't impacted your workplace at all. Maybe they are just interested as taking/thinking about taking themself, or just interested in general as a lot of the team are using it. If you are talking about it and company knows who is on it, have other people been taking time off sick because of it?

I guess it could become an issue in some workplaces and how should they handle it - would it be seen as an elective medication, not GP prescribed and therefore seen as self inflicted............. I suspect approach will vary enormously between employers depending on how understanding they were, how much they value employees long term health, and the impact of absences.

ThisWaryTurtle · 03/02/2025 17:00

@SilenceInside that's exactly my thought too. Thank you. I did say no, in response to whether I had taken my injection but it didn't really register until after the call.
It was my manager but asked by HR. HR shouldn't have the information unless I have willingly given it to them and I will be asking my colleagues if they got the same questioning the week before when they were off sick with flu. Sadly the reason I have it, is that my colleague was rushed back to work and spread the germs!

Is it possible they meant 'have you done your flu/COVID injections'?

Ladymuck2022 · 03/02/2025 18:08

I think it is wrong of them to mention it/ask I once when calling in sick for a day with a head ache and the team leader who answered (not my direct TL) directly quizzed me if a very tricky lengthy call the day they all knew about and if that was the real issue of my headache.

I felt quite intimidated and thought it slightly unprofessional but didn’t get chance to bring it up.

I’ve similar worries if my diabetes gets reversed (thanks possibly to the WL injections I presume once you lose the diabetes tag you can’t say you have a disability) and so am glad I put in most employments the whole no disability or prefer not to say, I can tell you whilst having it shoved down my throat the whole you are a diabetic you can easily get the jabs on the nhs.

What if you were a diabetic even? How on earth would this be allowable then.

ThisWaryTurtle · 03/02/2025 18:18

@NotALotToLose sadly not. X

I'd just answer I had my flu / covid vaccine on what date you had it, only if you want to. I wouldn't mention the weight loss injections.

Yes. Totally inappropriate and I would be speaking to HR to express that.

This would be my assumption too unless they specified MJ. Some workplaces ask because it helps deciding whether to fund flu jabs next year if lots of people are sick with it.
