Medexpress medical record request

myladyjane · 31/01/2025 19:09

Has anyone had a request from them to share medical records back?

Apparently my gp has said no to this and they want to see them so have asked me to download.

I am just about to order pen 2 but I wasn't planning on using them again tbh so I sort of don't want to. I mean I obviously was happy when they were prescribing for me but not if they aren't any more.

Am I being irresponsible?

I've read other people say this on here recently.
I think if you won't be ordering from them again I'd ignore it.

IwasatMandStoday · 31/01/2025 19:21

I have had this. I had to phone doc and get a patient summary. Took photo of it and sent it to MedExpress.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 31/01/2025 20:37

I’d move. They are the only pharmacy I have heard of that try to do this.

Lighterlilly · 01/02/2025 14:30

Why did your doctor say no, that’s the key, this isn’t about them saying no, it’s about your gp doing so.

what was the reason, if it was a good one, then yes ignoring medical advise and trying to score elsewhere is risking your health, if ther wasn’t a good reason, then it’s fine, but that would be unusual.

Dunkou · 01/02/2025 14:34

There's no way my GP would be bothered to sort this out, they've never even met me in the 4 years I've been with them, despite me trying to get appointments.

If I couldn't just screenshot info from the nhs app I'd move supplier. I'm with Med Express as well but haven't had this yet (joined end of December).

All gp’s are sending out a generic letter when this request comes in saying No , they will not share patients information so it’s not personal to you.

Op what’s the gp said no to, the drug or sharing the records? If the latter why do medexpress want to see them, and as said if the gp said no to th4 drug, why ?

the Email my gp got from MedExpress was asking to confirm my medical history information and to take responsibility for me being on the drug.
Gps will not agree to this as they didn’t prescribe it.

That’s unusual, as med express are very clear on what they send as standard, if they’ve asked the gp to take responsibility it is far from standard and there is clearly an issue. They also don’t inform without consent and you don’t need to give gp details.

myladyjane · 01/02/2025 16:26

I think it sounds as if it's the same email @Lighterlilly received. They've asked me to download a copy of my medical records and email them over.

Just to say no issue with my gp not sharing at all - I didn't actually realise the provider would need to request this tbh, I thought it was more that they shared the fact they'd prescribed.

Also a very uncomplicated medical history other than being a bit of a chunk. No suggestion the gp has said no to the medication, just that medexpress want to see medical records. I just dont want to have to share it with a provider I am unlikely to use again.

So there is no health issues declared at all and they want your medical records?

I left them as they are crap in other ways, but their website is very clear they don’t even notify a gp without consent never mind ask to see medical records

myladyjane · 01/02/2025 17:10

Ok have had time to do a bit of a google (rather than lazily just coming here which I did yesterday). As someone says below, seems like a 'thing' they are doing to improve safeguarding/rigour of process and quite a lot of people have encountered it.

I am not going to share as not planning to reorder. If I was I would consider it and I will if I find a provider i stick with as I'm not against in principle, nor do I expect my gp to do it.

My GP gave MedExpress the same generic answer 'we don't have time to send you medical records, get them yourself!' essentially.
I sent MedExpress screenshots from the NHS app showing the medications page and the existing conditions page and they were happy with that and continued prescribing.
Is the NHS app an option for you?

UncharteredWaters · 01/02/2025 17:25

So companies like this were being entirely lazy/often dangerous - they’d send a letter to the gp saying we have prescribed this med (and thus are responsible for it legally) but as a cope out / pass the risk on - often because they have used an admin person to scan your application - they are then asking the GP to review your entire medical record and state they are happy with this.

1 - gp cannot breach your confidentiality by doing so
2 - this is private work and takes away from nhs duties
3 you’ve paid the private company, but they aren’t paying the gp
4 no idea how thorough the application form is

  • we’ve had bmi 21 recorded but stated overweight to company
  • we’ve had trying to conceive mums not warned of risks
  • people with previous sig mental health/eating disorders or addiction issues ignore them
5 -patients then raging/ complaining to gp when we contact them to say they are contraindicated

6 - no information given that patients have been told of their individual risk/side effects eg eye concerns/ pregnancy risk/ in effective contraception secondary for taking it.

Therefore we now send a standard letter back, saying we have not checked the patients notes, the patient is welcome to a summary sheet to provide, the risk remains with the prescriber and basically stop being lazy and abusing the free nhs! If they want a medical report they can pay my fee to take the risk and I can use that money to better our gp service.

it’s become a shitshow with unscrupulous prescribing all over the place.

Why should she bother, she can get from many suppliers who are good, why go to this hassle to buy from this lot?

Hannahthepink · 01/02/2025 17:54

@Lighterlilly every supplier is asking for various things, whether it's ID checks, photos of scales, this is just another bit of evidence to supply. I only suggested the NHS app because to me it was a very easy and free way of giving them the info that MedExpress needed, no fuss needed.

I agree, sure you need to provide medical details, weight etc, and that’s the way it should be, but very few are asking for access to your medical records. So for me, if you know you have no health issues, I see no reason to provide this, there is dozens of reputable suppliers, there is no need to use this lot.

jeanclaude · 01/02/2025 18:39

I just checked my NHS app and it's on there under prescribed medications with a note that it's been checked from contraindications (I have none).

LyricalGangsta · 17/03/2025 17:42

@Hannahthepink where did you find the existing conditions page? I can find regular or repeated medicines whatever it is, which is empty for me as I’m not on any. I can’t find the page that says I have no conditions….?

Hannahthepink · 17/03/2025 18:27

@LyricalGangstadoes your record look like this? I suppose that it may vary by GP surgery as not all of them use the app?

This is mine. I don’t have some of the headers - including the one I want it to show! 🙄🤷🏼‍♀️

I have sent them a shot of the page that says no repeat medications and they are reviewing it apparently and I need to wait for an email update
