Is there a 'everything you need to know about Mounjaro' thread

... that someone could direct me to, please?

I am considering my options. I'm 14st12, 5'6" and 62.

What I think I know is:

You have to go private (which is okay) but some companies offer guidance, some just sell you the drug.

You need to shop around every month.

You have to commit to health eating, but is this because it's good for you, or because MJ isn't effective if you eat crap?

Do you have to get an exercise routine going to see success?

Should you have any monitoring other than scales?

Who decides your dose and how often you should inject?

What are the usual side effects?

Is it massively obvious to everyone you're on WLI because you eat a lettuce leaf not a meal? Does it massively impact your family life?

How great is the risk of rebound the moment you stop, as in all other diets that don't seem to require you to readjust your attitude to food?

Please note, I am not asking anyone to sit down and answer my every question (unless they're keen to!) just- is there a single unbiased source I can go to to find all this out?

Many thanks.

You don't need to shop around every month. Some people do but it's a lot of hassle and there are only really discounts for each provider the first time you use them.

I use Voy which has loads of extra support. There's a table somewhere which shows prices and what is provided for the price I'm sure someone will be along to link it

You start on 2.5mg and move up after 4 weeks to 5mg and so on up to 15mg. Some people don't move up from 2.5mg because they find its enough. Some people may stop at 5mg or 10mg etc - you decide basically but some of the subscription providers will move you up to the next strength automatically unless you ask them not to.

Some people find that if you eat fatty greasy food (or spicy food!) Whilst on it it gives you worse side effects. It gives you the opportunity to get into good habits while your body no longer craves all the food all the time.

I do have to plan meals out etc - I've been on 5mg for 3 months and it works well for me. I take it on a Tuesday and it means that if we do go out for food at a weekend I'm at my least suppressed around then and I can manage to eat a whole main meal and have a glass of wine. The days of having a starter and a dessert and a bottle of wine as well are long gone though sorry!

Don't know about rebound but I missed a week once due to a royal mail delivery issue and I was definitely hungrier without it but if I tried to eat too much I still couldn't- think my stomach has shrunk!

Do you do the injection every 7 days?

Yes it's a weekly injection and each pen contains four doses

I'll answer a couple:

You have to commit to health eating, but is this because it's good for you, or because MJ isn't effective if you eat crap?

Do you have to get an exercise routine going to see success?

Should you have any monitoring other than scales?

I lost 50lbs with no exercise at all. Now I am trying to lower my dose a bit - am currently on 10mg down from 15mg - eat a bit more and exercise. I just weigh myself but did buy some £25 scales that send your body fat, BMR and other stats to an app on my phone.

I focussed on eating high protein and low carb as I don't find that too hard. If you eat smaller portions you need to make sure you are getting nutrients. I never told anyone I was on it and friends didn't notice. I did say I was trying to eat better and ate smaller portions, said I didn't fancy dessert etc if I was full.

It's important to make some dietary changes rather than just eat smaller portions of the food that made you gain weight. As otherwise when you stop the Mounjaro you will just eat more and gain the weight back. Also people who report on these threads that they are suffering from diarrhoea or vomiting or other stomach issues often then say they have had high fat, high carb foods so I think the side effects often come from eating the wrong foods.

You don't need to shop around every month. You can if you want and many people do. The lower doses are cheaper and if you find a provider whose prices you're happy with you can stick with them for a few months before considering changing.

"Is it massively obvious to everyone you're on WLI because you eat a lettuce leaf not a meal? Does it massively impact your family life?"

It's clear to people who see me regularly that I have reduced what I'm eating, a lot, and that I don't really eat carbs or sugary things any more. So it's obvious that I've changed my diet and that I'm losing weight. I still go out for meals and socialise, I just choose the lightest smallest main or go for a side or two, and then eat what I can and leave (or share) what I don't want to eat. It has not negatively affected my family life at all. It has massively positively affected my family life as I have lost a tonne of weight and am so much happier and healthier for it. I have huge amounts more energy and enthusiasm for daily life, and get so much more done at home and with the children.

Just see the injection as an additional tool. It's not like it magically makes the fat disperse from your body...you need to eat less too. For some this is by feeling fuller for others mentally you're no longer emotionally eating etc.

I've had no side effects but I'm eating really well, just a lot less than before. I don't snack. I do intermittent fasting anyway so this fits in really well.

I've always walked and go to yoga. I will get back to the gym but that's because I don't want to lose muscle, not to lose weight.

If you're someone who has a lot of food 'noise' in their head it's really a miracle drug...if I didn't and normally am good with other diets I probably wouldn't bother.

Thanks everyone for their input!

If I'm honest, I don’t really understand why I'm so fat! I don't snack, I've never eaten a whole tub of ice cream, a full packet of biscuits or family slab of chocolate. I don't get desperate food cravings at all.

I have drunk quite a lot of wine, yes, but have been perturbed to find that not drinking hasn't made the slightest difference to my weight!

I tend to eat 2 meals a day, a breakfast of muesli, summer fruits (frozen) and Greek yogurt OR lunch (soup and bread/ cheese omelette or last night's left overs); dinner is usually from scratch; meat, sauce, veg, carb, I'd say 'normal' portions, and no dessert or a handful of grapes 🤷🏻‍♀️

However I am where I am and I don't like being BMI 34.7, which is why I'm considering Mounjaro.

Thanks for answering some questions!
