Side effect worries

Does anybody else take mounjaro and still worry about the serious side effects but yet still inject it because it’s the only thing to help lose weight!🥹

What side effects do you have? I had to stop due to extreme anxiety and my DSis had to because of constant diarrhoea- she was having to have time off work!

SilenceInside · 23/01/2025 23:51

Which serious side effects are you worried about? I've been taking it for over 6 months plus now and don't think about serious side effects at all. Minor side effects I just deal with and adjust diet or whatever to resolve them. Not that I've had any issues for a long while now.

Foreverboymumma · 24/01/2025 00:03

I think the thyroid cancer scares me the most!
I know it wasn’t found in humans but I think it’s the boxed warning that worries me! X

There's no warning about thyroid cancer in the UK patient info. I think in the US they state it, but there's no actual evidence of increased risk of thyroid cancer in humans. It's such a tiny theoretical risk that it's not worth worrying over, when the risks of being obese are much higher, including the risks of cancer. So taking Mounjaro to lose weight will overall reduce your risk of cancer not increase it.

No.

If I get side effects, I take medication.
I've had ver, very few, though.

I've been on it since June and I'm on 15mg now.

I literally have never thought about thyroid cancer in relation to MJ. Not once.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 24/01/2025 00:12

The health risks associated with obesity are far more worrying than the occasional side effects people get when they're on MJ.

I've lost nearly 7st now. Have you got much to lose OP?

Pyjamatimenow · 24/01/2025 00:17

Yes. After being on it 6 months I’ve started having a lot of diarrhoea. I’m about to move down another dose to see if it helps. I don’t worry about the thyroid cancer but only because I’ve had my thyroid scanned twice while on it as I’ve got a nodular thyroid. I do worry about my all the diarrhoea/bowels/ pancreas

I really thought there was a boxed warning for thyroid cancer even though found in rats they have to warn us about it. I just panic il be the person that gets it your comment is very reassuring! Thankyou ☺️

I need to remember this is why I’m on it. I have 7 stone to lose to get to my goal. Can I ask how long you’ve been on mounjaro?

Since June. It's wonderful!
And I've had only a few, very minor side effects, right at the beginning.

Arglefraster · 24/01/2025 01:11

There are (iirc) 12 other cancers which have been linked to obesity but this infographic for breast cancer is very helpful for putting unlikely dangerous MJ side effects into perspective

Dietingfool · 24/01/2025 06:55

From what I understand it was very early trials and the risk is not there as they tweaked it, but I think it goes on the box anyway in the us.

however obesity is the leading and biggest cause of cancer. There was a huge advertising campaign on it a few years ago, and a lot of people took offence. But it is the leading cause of cancer.

i think anxiety doesn’t lead to rational thought though.

SooooHungry · 24/01/2025 07:30

Yes me!I actually read the pamphlet that comes in the box this week before my injection and it says risk of pancreatitis is 1 in 100. Also said risk of gallstones 1 in 100. I've heard people have died from pancreatitis.

1 in 100 is a fairly high risk in my opinion. But here I am taking this medication anyway.

I want to loose weight so badly.

autumn1610 · 24/01/2025 07:31

its definitely a thing they won’t prescribe you it if you have family history of mtc, but not sure if that is more precautionary because of the early studies. Honestly you need to weigh up your own risks and how you feel.

It clearly isn’t though, as likely over 500k on them in the uk, and over 16 million on the USA, and that’s before we take all the other countries and regions into the numbers, so say 50 million folks, at least, so you’d be looking at 500k deaths, and in the USA it’s 274, all from either fakes or wreck less usage.

the warnings on the box are from early trials. They still need to put it on there.

Tamboureeny · 24/01/2025 07:49

If you have 7 stone to lose then realistically the health risks of carrying this additional weight are likely to be greater than the potential risks of the jabs. If you were only just overweight and had a small amount to lose then possibly not. Any decent provider will be able to talk through your concerns if you reach out. More likely to get unpleasant but probably not too serious effects such as sickness than anything sinister.

The trouble is that it’s not either or really is it? It’s not like being overweight and all the health risks that go with that vs taking mounjaro and those health risks? A lot of people could lose weight without mounjaro but it’s just much more difficult. I think that’s the mental struggle

IHateMozzies · 24/01/2025 13:37

I don’t worry about walking out the door and being run over, so not thought once about thyroid cancer.

Life’s too short to worry!

Yes me too! Everytime I see someone on Facebook saying they are in hospital with stones etc…sometimes feel like I’m taking a gamble

I think the point is, if you don’t lose the weight, then you maintain those high risks. Cancer, heart attack, stroke, diabetes, etc where as if you lose it those risks reduce significantly, and is during the process offset my a very low risk with the drugs.

I suspect most people who are considering MJ even though they're worried about side effects have tried other routes to losing weight.
