Post menopausal bleeding and Mounjaro

I’m about 4 years post menopause. Been on Mounjaro about three months.
I had a bad bout of thrush in December and started bleeding. Had a discussion with GP and she put it down to the thrush.
I’ve started bleeding again, and am wondering if it’s down to the Mounjaro. Had a google and can see other women experience the same.
Obviously I know any post menopausal bleeding needs investigating, and I’ve had this before. Just wondered if anyone has experienced the same please.

As a post meno woman who has had bleeds, I personally wouldn’t link it to WLI.
Do you take HRT?
I’d would however link the thrush to being post meno, do you take Vagifem or similar for your virginal health? Thrush and UTIs are linked to virginal atrophy due to decreased hormones. Even if you don’t take other HRT it’s worth taking Vagifem.
I would contact your doctor, but you should know that standard procedure for post meno bleeding is to be put on the cancer pathway, this is obviously worrying but in most cases is precautionary, if you are on HRT or not, you will usually be sent for a scan and then if needed a biopsy.
Ive had it happen 3 times in the last 6 years, but have not had anything to worry about, just had to tweek my HRT levels.

@Shallysally Hi I'm 2 year post menopause I've recently started bleeding with cramps and iys lingering on doing my head in tbh I've been on MJ since beginning of Nov

Shallysally · 23/01/2025 21:00

Yes I do take HRT @Itscoldouthere. I’ve been on the cancer pathway twice.

I didn’t know re thrush being linked to menopause. I’ll contact my GP tomorrow, thanks for the info.

@Shallysally It may be that your HRT is a bit out, I increased my progesterone for a bit which stopped my last bleeding issues, although I did have a scan first.
I don’t know if you follow Louise Newson at all, but she talk a lot about virginal health and the importance of replacing the hormones inside your virgina, many women suffer with thrush, UTIs, dryness, sore and itching and it can often be helped with Vagifem or similar, I insert one twice a week.

this is an interesting read

I haven't personally experienced this but it's come up quite often on WLI pages I follow on Facebook and Reddit.

ihatecoffee · 24/01/2025 00:02

Yes!! I've been on MJ and also HRT....
HRT for 10 years but two months into MJ I started bleeding.
One month I was absolutely flooding!
As a 60 year old woman this was certainly unwelcome and frightening.

On off spotting every three weeks then....

All tests have been negative!!

murraymcgill · 24/01/2025 09:56

@Shallysally I haven't even told my doctor about taking MJ I know it's just to do with MJ so I'm not worried

I haven't had a period in 15 - 17 years. I have never been put on HRT. And I only had spotting or a light period 2-3 days the first 1-2 years after menopause. Nothing like when I was fertile, it was like a murder scene and I had tons of pain.

I started Mounjaro May at 2.5mg. This month, I started 5mg.

This past week I had a little trickling that didn't even reach my clothing. The last 2 days, continual trickling, and today, I am feeling like the uterus is rigid enlarged like you can get during fertile years. And it's enough to spot my underwear today, so I am going to have to go the store. UGH!!!

I have also attributed it to the shots and decided to do a search and found a few websites stating women reporting this and then I found this thread and thought I would share.

I am going to monitor things and if everything calms down, I will just talk to my dr when I see her in a few months. If it is continual/gets worse, I will get in sooner.

I also made the link between WLI and the bleeding. When I went to the GP was told that this wasn’t a given, and any post menopausal needling needs to be investigated.

I personally am pleased I was checked out, for the peace of mind.

Hope the bleeding settles down for you.

As I understand it, WLI may reduce the body's efficiency in absorbing oral progesterone so v important to tell your GP & get investigated.

Thanks @DidoDino, I’ll do some research on this.
