I know you can’t target weight loss, but I’ve lost 6.5 stone using mounjaro since April started at 18 stone 12lb and now 12 stone 6lb my arms face and legs look amazing and I’m so happy but my stomach is still 51inches my legs are like a size 12/14 but stomach is 16/18 what can I do? Why is this happening?
I walk for around 1 hour a day week days and I’m a childminder so always on my feet and at weekend I go hiking for around 2.5 hours sometimes longer I eat around 1000 calories a day mainly protein avoid carbs. I do have PCOS could this be why?

Just to say you need to avoid core exercises if you do have it as this can make it worse!

gamerchick · 23/01/2025 14:30

You know, if you had started weight training at the same time as starting to lose weight, you would be so much happier with your shape now OP. I'd get some in there, walking isn't going to give what you want

Wow the pictures show a massive difference. You just need to keep going with the weight loss, lose at least another stone and do some exercise . You tummy was huge and will not just snap back sadly .
You have done brilliantly !
mine is the same to a lesser degree.

Ellepff · 23/01/2025 16:04

I was worried like pp until you shared the photos - you’re much smaller but your shape is the same. As you lose more, you’ll keep getting smaller all over and eventually your shape will change. Adding more resistance work helps too.

If you don’t like weights or machines, try pilates. It whips your posture into shape and is very good at building lean muscle. Calisthenics are great too but I get bored. I didn’t incorporate weights in consistsntly enough, but adding a pilates class is helping. And I have more energy and am more motivated the rest of the week

Muscle slackness and excess skin. Excess skin is far bulkier than people realise

I'm a similar weight and height to you - I'm an inch taller (5ft 6)

My belly is the last part of me to shift. I can be 13.5 stone or 10.5 stone and will be a size 14 to 16 at both weights.

I can't reach a 12 round my waist til I'm 9.5 stone, and can't get to size 10 til I'm underweight at under 18 bmi and around 8stone (which I have been twice in my life - sadly a long time ago!!!)

I:ve always been this way.

My mum was underweight all her life and died v malnourished (though that wasn't why she died) at 5ft5 and around 6.5 stone. Even then, when you could see all her bones and ribs and spine, she still had a little belly ;)

Apple shapes are bloody hard to get rid of and sadly hereditary it would seem :(

@YourAmberHam well done on your weight loss I'm still wearing the same clothes I use to ok a bit looser I'm 2 stone done but I can't excersize as I'm waiting on spinal surgery

I think this is a bit of a Mounjaro thing, actually.

I am a natural hourglass - even at my fattest I had a waist and a smallish stomach. However although I have lost well over 3/12 stone, my waist has not decreased in proportion to the rest of me. My waist has always been the FIRST part of me to lose weight, with hips, thighs and bust the last, but not on Mounjaro.

I do have a waist but it isn't anything like in my old shape. I am not straight from hip to bust exactly, but more along those lines than curving in as I have always done from my skinny teens and twenties onwards. I know a lot of people are naturally straight through the waist no matter how thin they are, but I never have been! I kind of do not recognise my body shape because of this even though I am approaching a healthy BMI now.

I do wonder about all this slowed transit through the gut part of Mounjaro and whether that is something to do with it. Someone on another thread here mentioned the 'androgynous' shape that Mounjaro seems to create, and I have to agree with that.

Dietingfool · 23/01/2025 17:25

I don’t think it is a mounjaro thing. My waist has shrunk Enormously. I think it is an exercise snd muscle thing.

SevernWonders · 23/01/2025 17:54

I could have written your post OP.

I have always been hourglass shaped even at 18 stone, I have lost over 5 stone and am now 12 stone 8, I am 5' 8" so my BMI is now 26.6 yet a Next (who are known for being generous) size 18 waist is a bit tight on me - not over the waist itself but my belly sticks out massively between my waist and hips.

I can't offer advice, but sympathy, and will lurk on your thread hoping for tips.

YourAmberHam · 23/01/2025 18:04

everyone has been sooo helpful! I really appreciate all the advice and words of encouragement :)

See your Gp to rule out things like the 6kg ovarian cyst I had. I was losing weight all over except on my tummy.

edited to add that with Mounjaro working on insulin resistance I’d expect people to lose weight from their tummy so I’d not be inclined to call still having weight around the middle a Mounjaro thing. It’s more likely to be a diet and excercise thing.

I could have typed exactly the same- can’t wear size 12 until down to 9.5stone and have a large frame and apple shape.
