Diabetic husband BMI 34

He claims that he had tried to obtain wegovy/ozempic privately through my juniper, Asda, boots etc and because he declared in the online questionnaire that he's diabetic, the online pharmacy refused to prescribe it to him *snide eye.

So, could I ask my esteemed mumsnetters, how do I go about getting the injections for my husband? I'm not worried about the cost so much, he ballooned 30kg ish in the past 10 years, and I'm worried he's heading to an early grave.

Thanks so much, I'm thoroughly appreciative

Has he tried his GP?

He can ask for it from whoever is managing his diabetes and he may well be able to get an NHS prescription for it.

I'm not surprised that the private prescribers are not prescribing it for him, as it can affect other diabetes medication and have potential side effects that don't happen for non-diabetics. It's less complicated for them just to say no.

Check monj.co.uk for more safe registered pharmacies.

I not diabetic but with Oushk and I am sure there are people on their Oushk Support Group Facebook page that buy from them and are diabetic (have a search look on their facebook page). If they do there will also be others, just got to find them, some of the providers that focus on "easy" big volume sales don't take some medical conditions, smaller registered pharmacies sometimes do.

I asked my diabetes nurse and she prescribed it straight away, I was on a routine review call with her and asked if she would consider prescribing it, and she said 'yes sure let's give it a go, can you pop into the surgery now because I need to show you how to use the pen?'

I dropped work like a hot potato and went straight in, had to make up my time later but it was so worth it. 4 months on, my blood sugars are perfect, I've been able to drop the insulin completely and I've lost over 3 stone.

Thanks so much for info, will check the FB group out. But yes he tried both GP and private GP. The private GP requires monthly ultrasounds which cost more than the injections itself! NHS GP didn't want to prescribe it at all (he's not insulin dependent, I think that's why).

If he has been diagnosed Type 2, I would be wary about not going through the GP. I think diabetes is one of the situations where you ought to have proper medical supervision.

Thanks so much for this! Ordered (and potentially waiting for the prescriber to message back)! Just needed a woman to get on and do it I guess.
