I’m on my own now, can’t get another prescription!

Just thought I’d post with a bit of a cautionary tale and see if anyone else in the same boat.

Last year I lost about 8kg using Mounjaro over 3 months. I was 83kg and had a BMI of 30.4 so in the obese category but only just.

In November I was down to 75 kg. Goal weight was/is 65kg but I stopped the injections because I had a couple of big public speaking events coming up at work and I’d been having a few issues with diarrhoea on 5mg. I then decided that I wanted to enjoy Christmas with my normal appetite so didn’t re-order.

Continued to receive auto emails offering repeat prescription.

Predictably, I’ve regained some weight (about 3kg) and am now ready to get back to work on reaching my goal.

Tried to re-order but was rejected as apparently a 12 week gap means I am effectively a new patient so no longer qualify. They won’t re-prescribe unless my BMI goes above 30 again.

If I understand correctly, they’d have kept prescribing to me with a BMI below 30 if I hadn’t had a gap in taking it.

It is what it is I guess. I don’t regret stopping in terms of how I have felt over the last few months, but in retrospect I am wondering if it would have been worth the investment of continuing to order it but just not using it.

I’m now gearing up to shift that next 10kg without the help of Mounjaro but I am back to my old carb-craving ways!

It’s almost tempting to let myself gain enough weight to qualify again, but I know how silly that would be and I’m enjoying fitting back into so many clothes.

Anyone have any tips for losing/maintaining after stopping the injections?

Health Express are great! I had a break of 2months and cant shift the weight i put on over Christmas. They refilled my prescription straight away.

Doggymummar · 18/01/2025 13:02

I use chequp and they advised I would have to start again if I had more than 4 weeks between jabs, when I switched from Rybelsus 15mg I had to start at 2.5mg and 5 months later I am just about to start 12.5mg, they're very cautious

Shrinkingrose · 18/01/2025 13:27

Maybe a misleading title. Surely it should say can’t get it from med express, now notoriously shit, so have decided to go it alone and not bother trying the good suppliers?

I am going to do my maintenance plan with Oushk. One of their maintenance options is a flex plan for £15 per month. If during the following 12 months you put any weight on they will re-prescribe to you. As others have said may be worth contacting Oushk with your dosage history and asking would they consider putting you on their maintenance plan.
They are a small company and seem really helpful, so definitely worth a try.
Good luck.

IHateMozzies · 18/01/2025 14:42

I will probably have a similar problem with MedExpress. I ordered my 2nd 5mg pen with IQ Doc and that was dispensed on 08/01. MedExpress have now sent me a 20% off my next order code but this has to be used by 23/01. I still haven’t started the 2nd 5mg pen so will have a stock build up in the fridge if I take up their discount. I’m hoping to move house, so don’t want a big stockpile in the fridge!

That’s very interesting, thank you. But, update! I had a go at quickly filling in an order with Cloud, put in my honest current height and weight and uploaded the same photo sent to Med Express. Did not mention at all that I had used Mounjaro before (as that question was not asked, only - as I said above- “are you currently taking Mounjaro?”). Order has already been “approved by the medical team” and is on its way!
Thanks to those who recommended them.

@Shrinkingrose😂
@Unopenedpackofmenssocks I knew this would be about medexpress as soon as I read your op! There is mother statutory / following guidelines about their behaviour.

Honestly, phone cloud, Oushk or Pharmulous and be honest about your situation and ask if they can help you. You’ll get a lot further speaking to a compassionate human being than filling in a form. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 18/01/2025 15:23

Oops, your latest update hadn’t appeared but I am delighted you have got some help from Cloud!

Shrinkingrose · 18/01/2025 15:31

I also guessed medexpress, I also left them , the condescending responses from their cs team, their inaccurate advice ie you can only stay on mj for two years, no you can’t that’s wegovy, their lack of maintenance, their hard cut off at 23,5 bmi and their high prices at higher doses, it’s all just very poor.

i think due to warnings from the regulators about their behaviour, they now just implement a set of hard rules for all weight loss medications, rather than doing the work to differentiate between the drugs as they should, and they are focused on making as much money as possible, so do all these discounts at low doses so they can bump the price up at the higher doses, customer service and care is basically forgotten,

@Unopenedpackofmenssocks that's great news! I'm surprised that they have approved it without knowing you've been on MJ before if your BMI is now under 30 (but pleased that they have..!)

Completely agree with @Shrinkingrose and @IReallyNeedThisToWork's posts about MedExpress and the difference when dealing with a pharmacy like Oushk or Cloud who treat you more as an individual case.

scoobysnaxx · 18/01/2025 18:51

Oh dear, I'm currently with Medexpress. Thinking of changing.. can anyone recommend anywhere else?

Yes, I was pretty surprised too!

I was accepted with a bmi of 28 with Juniper 🤷‍♀️

Unopenedpackofmenssocks · 19/01/2025 09:10

There was this section. I have had acid reflux/GORD all my life, it was not actually caused by being overweight as I first suffered when I was a slim but stressed-out twenty something, but it does get worse the more overweight I am. So I ticked it, perhaps that was what allowed them to prescribe for me at BMI 28. I could also have ticked [peri]menopause but I forgot to, wonder if that would have made a difference in its own.

I’m on my own now, can’t get another prescription!

Yep that will be it, it doesn't have to be a condition caused by being overweight, it can be a condition that increases the risk of being overweight or which would be helped by weightloss

Asda are very expensive, have a look at oushk and see if they are more affordable (they have a discount code too), there are others cheaper too but some you compromise service. Bolt are good and reasonably priced too. I can't recommend any others but there is a comparison site, just watch out for the ones that use referral codes as people only recommend them to get people to use their code.

murraymcgill · 19/01/2025 09:56

@WorriedRelative cool thanks for your help I'll have a look I really don't want to come off

toomuchcheesetoomuchchocolate · 19/01/2025 10:00

MedExpress do seem to be very much "computer says no" whereas other providers such as Oushk seem to take a more personalised approach so you may well be able to switch to them.

I think they expanded really quickly and they have now just got a bunch of junior customer service folks applying set criteria, with no thought behind it, and due to their warnings from the regulators, I’m not sure they really care, they are just trying to get as many new customers as they can and applying strict rules. There is always another customer right.

wven when I pointed out to them the 2 years was erroneous and for wegovy, others were offering maintenance, and asked if they would, they sent me a daft email back saying yes it’s 2 years but if you “hit 23.5 bmi we will cut you off immediately and cease supply”

so I just walked. Pointless arguing it.

The continuing mounjaro thread has a link to the comparison site in the first post.

Good luck, hopefully you can manage not to have too much of a break.

Do you use the bonus dose?

Could you go to jabbing every 10 days to stretch what you have left a little longer while you try to afford the next pen?
