Mounjaro - have i given myself diabetes

Not sure what I aim to get from this post. I took Mounjaro last year, had side effects such as head aches, dehydration, food not digesting, lightheadedness, dizziness and towards the end got a bit shaky. I only took it for 6 weeks and stopped. The side effects were minimal to begin with but got progressively worse so stopped. I stopped taking it beginning October. I did lose weight.

I have annual blood tests due to arthritis and was called in last week, didn't think anything about it. I received a message from my GP yesterday saying I have prediabetes, borderline for Type 2 diabetes.

I'm beating myself up about this because I think I could have caused this myself by taking MJ? Could it have damaged my pancreas and caused diabetes?

This is a long shot but has anyone had the same?

If you read my posts, I have already addressed this

And that’s ok for us to disagree, but two stone in 6 weeks seems a very large loss to me,

10 kg is not 2 stones.

Disagreement is fine but telling someone their loss is ‘awful, shocking’ is not helpful and tbh untrue! If you have a big loss in the first week or two as many of us do (say 7lbs) then it’s only a stone in 5 weeks which is just over the ‘recommended’ 2lbs a week.

Oh and 22lbs is not 2 stone.

I agree, 10kg is not 2 stones and if OP was borderline obese to start with, lots of weight in the first 2 weeks will be water weight.
@CheekySwan seeing as MJ is used to treat people who are obese with diabetes, I don’t see how it would have caused it. However this can be corrected as it’s pre diabetes. There will be a lot of focus on your diet and changes to be made but I’ve known someone who corrected theirs with changes to their diet and increased physical activities.

I take MJ for diabetes and it's been brilliant for normalising my blood sugar levels, it's very effective, so if you were pre-diabetic when you started last year, you may have been experiencing some symptoms of low blood sugar due to taking it and cutting carbs at the same time.

Make that appt at the docs, get official advice on testing and managing diabetes, keep a log of what you are eating and how it affects your readings, if you can afford it or are offered it, I found a freestyle Libre 2 sensor really useful. It gives you a constant view of your sugar levels in an app so you can see what causes spikes and what keeps you level.

For example I can't eat potatoes, or at least I can only have a very very small portion but I can have basmati rice.

Once you've got a few weeks of knowledge under your belt it's easier to tweak your diet around and find a healthier lifestyle. I strongly recommend adding some walks in as well, a 20 min walk after a meal does wonders for reducing your sugar levels.

Oops, you’re right!
