People with fast weightloss- what calories were you consuming?

I have just started Mounjaro. In this first week I have still eaten quite a lot. One day was 1500 calories, other days 1200-1300.

I assume those losing a couple of stone in a couple of months are eating far fewer calories?

I lost a stone in 2 weeks but remember that if you go onto a low carb diet you lose alot of the water associated with the storage so its not nessesarily fat you are dropping.

I was eating about 1500 calories but I'm very tall and quite active so that would have me in a 1000 a day deficit

Rainynightinsoho · 16/01/2025 20:51

Thanks. So you lost with quite a high calorie intake.

I don’t feel like I’m losing and my scales are very unreliable but I am apparently 600+ under my TDEE. If the TDEE and my calorie counting is not too off, I suppose I must lose.
I could certainly be more active.

TDEE Minus 500. Sometimes a little less. I followed low carb principles and tried to eat high protein although that I found quite hard in the early days. Now I’m maintaining so eating higher carbs.

You might find it helpful to track properly until you get into the swing of it. I still track every day and I've been going since end of March last year. A loss of 1-2 lbs a week is fine. Slow and steady is good.

Shrinkingrose · 16/01/2025 22:02

I do about 1300 a day, sometimes a bit more sometimes a little less but not much and not often,

lost two and a half stone in 13 weeks, however i exercise most days.

RamblingFar · 17/01/2025 01:00

I'm over 4.5 stone down now. I aim at eating roughly 1250 calories a day, plus any extras from exercise. The daily calories have gone down as the weight's gone down. I think it was more like 1600 a day at the start. I use MyFitnessPal to calculate.

susiedaisy1912 · 17/01/2025 06:26

I've been eating 1500-1800 calories a day and have lost 60lbs over 9 months on 2.5-5mg doses. I Don't exercise. But I have a lot to loose. Started with a BMI of 49. I'm sure as I get a lower BMI I will have to reduce my intake and start exercising

Get new scales op.

It’s not the calorie intake that matters so much as the deficit. 1000kcal a day is a big deficit but it will be much harder to achieve for someone who has a low TDEE because they are short or not very heavy.

You can expect to lose just over a pound a week with a daily deficit of 600kcal.

You think 1200-1500 calories is 'quite a lot' and you 'don't feel like you're losing' when you've only been on it a week. You need to adjust your expectations and approach. It's not a quick fix, you shouldn't be aiming for drastic or quick weight loss and you absolutely need to be eating enough to fuel your body to preserve your muscle and minimise loose skin. Both these posts so far are quite concerning.

Rainynightinsoho · 17/01/2025 07:06

Good point - it’s the deficit rather than the intake, doesn’t really make sense to compare intake. I need to increase the deficit as I would like to lose more than 1 lb a week. I’ll trying exercising more and maybe get new scales. Calorie intake might decrease the longer I am on Mounjaro.

Sorry I didn’t see your message for some reason @InkHeart2024. Maybe I need a rethink, the quick “miraculous” weightloss is so appealing.

What's your TDEE? It can't be that low to start with if you're obese. If it's around 2000 then 1400 is a good number to aim for. If it's over 2000 then you still shouldn't aim for more than 1000 calories a day deficit and that's really quite a lot. Mounjaro isn't a miracle fix. It's a long term tool to reduce weight and support maintaining weight loss.

I was just thinking the same thing.

Absolutely fucked up how certain dieting tools recommend eating 1,200 calories.

Rainynightinsoho · 17/01/2025 07:23

My TDEE was just below 2000. I am obese with related health issues so the motivation to lose weight is sensible. Maybe I need to think more about healthy food and exercise than counting/weighing.

I've seen hair loss mentioned by a few people that have been using Mounjaro a while (I'm not slating it I'm in week 2 of using it.)

I think hair loss occurs (often months after) when rapid weightless/starvation shocks and stresses the body and possibly if malnutrition occus too.

I want to avoid hair loss if possible so I'm aiming for a healthy rate of weight loss of 1-2 lb a week and good nutrition as far as possible.

Don't forget 1lb a week is 52lb over a year!

I lost weight pretty quickly but I was eating only 800 calories most days and struggling with that, so it’s not that surprising.

Dangerous and unsustainable.
