Thinking about it

Just a bit of background - I'm mid-30's and have struggled with my weight since I was 10 years old. I remember wishing to be thin blowing out my birthday candles every year since then, which is pretty sad really.

I'm very much a yoyo-er. The biggest I've been is 16st, and smallest 11.7st. I am currently 12st 4lbs and a small size 14. I've never been slim in my life I am 5ft 3 so just within the minimum BMI limit.

I think about food constantly and I'm very much a stress eater. I lost 2st over the past couple of years following a low carb/high protein diet but it was a hard slog, and for the past 6 months I've been in an awful binge cycle because I'm very stressed so have gained half a stone.

I've been doing a lot of research into Mounjaro and have particularly found it interesting hearing from people who binge eat and have found it completely switches off the food noise for them. I know about nutrition and what I should be eating, but find it so hard to put it into practice.

I am seriously considering it but it would be a big stretch financially. Is there anyone here who has done it for a few months then tapered down, or is it an 'on them for the foreseeable' / maintenance situation? I guess that's the only thing putting me off at the minute.

I'd love to hear some feedback from others, especially those who are a similar starting weight to me.

Many people come off, lots of threads on it, others will stay on, it is a personal decision op. Some folks feel they can go it alone, others feel they can’t and stay on,

Thanks, will try and find some threads from people who have come off it!

I started on Saturday. I eat healthy meals but then snacks in an unheathy way, I think as a stress reaction and sensory seeking. I would often find myself opening the cupbaord with biscuits in without even been aware of it. That hasn’t happened at all this week. I’m hoping it will help me break the habit as I eat out of want rather than hunger.

Similar to me. I was diagnosed with autism last year and I think that is very much linked to my food issues.

Glad to hear it's going well for you!

I have just taken my 7th jab and lost 14.4lbs so far. Honestly it is the best thing I've done as I usually have constant food noise and would binge every weekend. I have had 1 binge since starting, I ate a 200g chocolate and some weeks last weekend, but still managed to lose over 2lb this week.

Cost wise it can be expensive, I usually use ZAVA as they offer good discounts. I have just added my referral discount to the referrals thread if you wanted to use it.

Like you, I’ve spent my adult life trying to lose weight. I’m a ‘touch’,well quite a bit older than you !
When I was younger, it was relatively easy to lose a stone or two but as I got older my weight increased and I just couldn’t stick to a diet long enough.

I think the issue is, if you feel deprived, hungry and miserable then weigh in and only lose a pound, the logic is ‘well I’ve starved all week just to lose a pound, sod it, I’ll have a binge.
We know how self destructive we can be.

in desperation, about 7 years ago, I paid £10k for a gastric sleeve, money I couldn’t really afford.
The first 2 years was a breeze, especially the first year when my stomach was healing. But lockdown happened, and whilst I couldn’t each much, I turned to chocolate buttons and other sweet things that could slide down.
As I was working from home, which I hated, I didn’t notice or worry about weight gain especially since I was no longer wearing fitted work clothes.

Fast forward to Oct 2024 and my very last attempt was Mounjaro. Anyone who has had a gastric sleeve and then used Mounjaro will tell you that the jabs are just as effective as the sleeve both in terms of weight loss and food noise.

Since October, I’ve lost 19lbs, not a huge amount and I’ve about the same left to lose. The difference compared to normal dieting, is I’ve had a week with no loss, another few with only one pound off BUT because I haven’t felt even remotely deprived, I haven’t been tempted to binge. I KNOW the medication is working, so happy just to plod along.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad I had surgery as I only regained 2 of the 5 stone I lost BUT for anyone considering Mounjaro now or weight loss surgery, I’d say Jabs EVERY time.
I intend to stay on this medication at a lower dose once I’ve reached the maintenance stage.
It really has been incredible. Costwise, I was a bit worried BUT I use the bonus dose, so 5 per pen. This works out much less than I’d normally spend on junk food, so I think of it as being free of charge !

Youll find so much support here, I’d say go for it !

Thank you @MyFirmFatball, I am so glad it's working out well for you. That is interesting re the sleeve as a family member who is younger than me had one done 2 or 3 years ago, and I wonder if she would have opted for the jabs if they were more readily available then. It sounds like you get very similar results at a much lower cost.

I am seriously considering it as I think it would be transformative for me. I've never been smaller than the higher end of a size 12 before in my adult life so couldn't imagine being slim really. But I feel like I owe it to myself to at least try.
