Overwhelmed with getting started

I'm 17st 7lb and so ready to loose weight. I've been "eating clean" using my fitness pal, increased physical activity and been going to the gym for the last two weeks and have lost a measly pound and a half. I know everyone starts somewhere but the effort is huge for a minimal loss and it will take me 2 years at this rate to have a healthy bmi and my enthusiasm is already waning.
If money was not a limiting factor, would you opt for

  1. Weight loss injectables
  2. Personal training
  3. Weight loss surgery
I can afford to do one of them but not all!! Pros/cons appreciated please. I've been hovering over the "checkout now" on injectables all day.

Injectables, they are amazing.

why would you go for invasive surgery when you can take a safe drug.

amd you can’t outrun your fork, so the gym is unlikely to work either.

HansHolbein · 15/01/2025 18:00

Mounjaro, every time.

igivein · 15/01/2025 18:01

Mounjaro, no question - along with healthy eating and exercise. I’ve lost 3.5 stones since October.

Julesni77 · 15/01/2025 18:04

If it helps and weightloss is your sole aim - I would say go for the injections but keep a gym membership up and look on line for free strength programs

you want to lost fat not muscle so prioritising protein and logging your intake will help

I started at 19.7 reasonably fit and very strong from having a PT for 2 years but I could not dial back my nutrition by myself

I started 2 weeks before xmas and am now 17.9 so nearly 2 stone off - i average 2000 cals a day and aim for 120g protein
the injections have been life changing for me they enable me to stick at my diet with ease and it is a diet - I had great suppression from day 1 which is starting to wane now as I stayed on 2.5mg for the second pen but will move up again in 2 weeks - I will probably have to stay on maintenance for life but the cost is offset somewhat by the junk and booze I am no longer buying - I still enjoy wine at the weekend and track it but I was a bottle of wine 5 nights a week which was a great contributor to the massive BMI and I could not out lift or out run it

you can get your first jab for £100 and see how you get on? There are lots of providers offering discounts

Good luck whatever road you go down!

InfoSecInTheCity · 15/01/2025 18:09

Honestly Mounjaro.

I have tried every diet going, I usually have good losses at first then it stalls then it all goes back on.

I didn't choose to go on Mounjaro, I was prescribed it back in Sept for T2 Diabetes as insulin and metformin combo was still leaving me with high sugar readings so they decided to give MJ a try.

It's been phenomenal. No side effect, sugar levels perfect to the extent I've been able to ditch the insulin, and I've lost just over 3 stone and it hasn't been hard. Yes I need to track my food and calories, I need to say no to cake and biscuits etc but it's a lot easier to do that on the WLIs

Unlike previously when someone would say 'want some cake.' And I'd say ' no thanks, trying to be good' then my brain would say 'it does look good, wonder if there's something else you could have instead, or maybe just a tiny portion, no stay strong you don't need cake, ah but you are hungry, stomachs starting to rumble you're really hungry, ugh mouths watering just thinking about that cake, would a small bit really hurt, what else is there to eat...............' and on and on till the next thing I can eat. Now, I say no and that's that, I stop thinking about it.

All of this!

Luminousalumnus · 15/01/2025 19:38

Buy the Mounjaro. It's fabulous. But if you change your mind just stop
You are overthinking this.

SilenceInside · 15/01/2025 19:45

Also another vote for Mounjaro. It's been a revelation. As the PP has said, you can try it and see how you get on, you can always stop if it doesn't suit.

SevernWonders · 15/01/2025 20:08

What they ^ said

InkHeart2024 · 15/01/2025 20:10

Mounjaro 100%

Do some weight and strength training either at the gym or at home using a free online programme and spend your money on the injections. Weight loss surgery should be discounted if you haven't tried injections first!

Oreosareawful · 15/01/2025 20:12

Definitely mounjaro, and money was an object to me. no regrets here.

I would go with options 1 & 2 combined (if this is financially viable) - you will really see results then. Otherwise, 100% Mounjaro & then keep up with everything else you're currently doing. Don't let it dishearten you if you're not seeing results straight away, keep on going - you've got this!

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 16/01/2025 03:12

Mounjaro!!

Like many, it has changed my life! I’m now nearly 7 months in but in the early days, I was quite emotional and evangelical about it😁 The quiet in my head regarding food and alcohol is so liberating and I said from the beginning that even if I never lost another pound, I wanted to stay on this forever!

(BTW, I also started this cycle of weight loss - there have been many more! - at 17’ 7. Lost 9lbs on the fast800 and then stalled which drove the MJ purchase. I am now 11’ 5, no longer obese and walking around on holiday in shorts!!!)

MrsTerryPratchett · 16/01/2025 03:17

You asked on the weight loss injections board so you get the answers you get!

But the fact that you asked on here, not the Exercise Board or the Low Carb Bootcamp board suggests you've already made your decision.

As someone who low carbs and runs, and has been successful, I'd say from your list, injections. Because weight loss surgery is brutal and you can't out train a bad diet.

I follow a bloke on YouTube and he trained 5000 calories in a day and ate 5000 calories the same day. It took him something like 13 hours to train 5000 calories off and 2 hours to eat them. You lose weight in the kitchen and tone in the gym.

Yogurtraisins · 19/02/2025 18:45

Just to update, 3 weeks later I've lost 10lb, no side effects other than a little bit of heartburn! Thanks for the encouragement

Thanks so much for updating!

I was here to vote for MJ plus gym (not necessarily with a PT), but sounds like you’re already on it!

Yogurtraisins · 27/04/2025 17:28

Back again to update, 12 weeks later I have lost 33lb and feel fantastic. I'll be sticking at 7.5mg as have really high suppression. Thanks all for the encouragement to start!

Having done PT at considerable cost...

Injectables.
Just a game changer

Candlesandmatches · 27/04/2025 17:42

I’m moving towards being on the other side of this.
So a 1.5 loss in a week is honestly really a good start.
With the weight loss I have realized the following:
I did injectables - I was a similar weight and I’m 5ft 8. The weight comes off but so does muscle mass (not good) and my hair started to fall out because I lost so quickly. I was fortunate and didn’t really have side affects. However when I stopped all the weight went back on. And when I retried the injections they didn’t have the same affects.
So I left it a few months and had a really good think.
I started a new program. It’s going to cost about the same as the injections but the difference is more support, high protein which has largely the same appetite affect as the injectables however with more nutrients in my diet. Just walking but I can add strength training if I want too. Also online and zoom support and webinars. Also using my fitness pall to track and be really honest about calories and food intake. Since start of February I am down 8.3 kilos. I feel, look better. Have a more positive mindset and a giving my body healthy food. I also learning how to change my mindset and treat myself with respect
I signed up for a year. Because I wanted to make a commitment to myself.
Im not going to post the program im
doing but feel free to email if you want details.
It’s based in Ireland. But I’m in Switzerland and found it on Instagram or Facebook.
A PT will get you fitter but not necessarily help you lose weight - unless they have a weight loss eating Programme and have nutrition qualifications.
