Photos for prescriber

Hello,

I am tentatively thinking of starting MJ (current bmi 35.2, have battled with weight all my adult life)
I’m looking at all the different prescribers but have not yet made a decision.

I have read (on here) that some people had their photos rejected - what are they looking for in the photos? Do clothes need to be tight (I don’t own any leggings or tight tops)
I don’t have any photos of me - hate being photographed. Can it be a selfie? Or do I need someone else to take it from a greater distance?

Any information gratefully received.

I did photos using a full length mirror, from the front and from the side. The provider I used asked for me to be holding a piece of paper with the date written on it that was clearly visible. The date was mirror reversed but that didn't seem to be an issue! I had to make sure I got all of me in the shots.

The photos need to show your figure, so the clothes do need to be non-baggy. I wore a t-shirt that was really too small for me at the time, so therefore very very snug and also leggings.

TheNinthLock · 14/01/2025 13:51

Thank you. That was exactly the information I need!
I don’t have a full length mirror (denial is a wonderful thing!) so will need dh to take the pictures. I have plenty of t-shirts that are too small but will need to go buy some leggings.

Oh, I had to dig the full length mirror out from behind the wardrobe where it had been hidden away for several years!

You can set a timer on your phone. On an iPhone anyway. Not sure how it works on an android phone.

Use the front camera that faces you as if you were taking a selfie. Prop it up somewhere, leaning on some books on a table for example, and figure out where you need to stand to be fully visible in it.

On an iPhone, with the front camera open and ready to use, click the little ^ at the top of the screen (in the black area). It brings up a menu along the bottom of the screen with graphics.

Scroll right until you see one that looks like a timer. You can then choose 3s, 5s and 10s.

Press the number of seconds you want to set. Then press the big button to take a picture.

The timer counts down on the screen giving you enough time to stand where you need to for a full length picture.

Then you don't to involve anyone else!

Saw a tip on here for people who don't own a full length mirror.. pop to a clothes shop and go in the changing rooms.. full mirrors in there..

TheNinthLock · 14/01/2025 14:38

Both great ideas! Thank you. I had thought to take a video on my phone and then screenshot the relevant bit but I’ll investigate the timer!
Failing that I’ll pop to a clothes shop - I could try on some leggings 😁🙈

I did mine in jeans and tight short (waitband level no flesh on display!) vest top and it was fine with both suppliers I have used. As long as it is full length and clearly shows your physique it should be ok

Med exp have a habit of rejecting photos as a delaying tactic when under pressure

Rather than buying leggings, do you (or your husband) have any shorts? Or PJ bottoms? The prescriber needs to be confident that your weight as submitted is accurate and therefore it is a safe prescription to issue. I wouldn't spend money on that, I wore clothes that I wouldn't usually wear out (PJ shorts and a vest top). I did delete it from my camera roll pretty quickly and had to remind myself that the only person seeing it is a registered health care professional who would have seen a lot worse!

I do have some (tight, Lycra, never worn) shorts. Or a swimsuit 🙈

I did my first photo in my swimming costume. Nobody was going to reject that as looking too thin! I've had to do some others but just tucked a t shirt into my trousers (not leggings) and that was OK. It might depend on where you carry your weight. I've got reasonably small legs but am round in the middle.

Divebar2021 · 14/01/2025 15:58

I didn’t wear anything particularly tight or revealing. I had my slimmish dog walking trousers ( North Face outdoor) and a sweater. It was pretty obvious that I was not a skinny minny.

ThisFunLife · 14/01/2025 16:00

I did a selfie in the bathroom mirror. Tight jeans and a baggy top that I kind of tried to hold close to my belly so they could see my muffin top! Seemed to work !

I didn't have leggings just jeans, stretchy type. Maybe you have a pair of shorts?
*sorry, just read your other posts and realised that you do.
To be fair if someone carries the weight well and are just about on a threshold of BMI of 30 then they can question the photos but with BMI over 35 it is hard to hide the fat even in looser clothes 😅. No one questioned my photos 🤣😂🤣 because no matter what I wear, there is no denying I have plenty of weight to lose 🙂.

Onceachunkymonkey · 14/01/2025 17:35

I lifted my top and lowered my leggings and showed em my belly. Felt sorry for them, but I couldn’t be arsed messing round. So I got it all out and fired it through. It was approved embarrassingly fast..😂

TheNinthLock · 14/01/2025 18:12

Thanks all. And yes, with a bmi of over 35 why am I worrying that my photos will make me look too thin. Denial really is a wonderful thing 🙈

They wanted to see my stomach but I don't think they said anything about what clothes to wear. I didn't want to mess about so did pics in my bra and pants taken in the mirror, and then edited to chop my head off. Lucky lucky prescriber.

PinkArt · 14/01/2025 19:31

I was wearing a dress and a jumper that was tighter than the designer intended. They just need to see that you are you and you are the weight you are telling them you are. So essentially you just want to wear something you'd usually avoid being photographed in because it's unflattering!
Please don't buy something just for this that probably won't fit you in a month or so.
