There are so many threads on here which feels a bit overwhelming so I wondered if you could please post your top tips for new starters here to make it easy to find?
Thanks

Lots of water.
Take a probiotic from the off.
Eat well, eat meals and don't relay too much on protein drinks etc, try and eat in the protein in meals.
Drink and eat especially well on jab day to avoid side effects.
Take lots of photos before and actually weigh yourself before Grin

nebular · 11/01/2025 08:50

Oh and take collagen too

Squishedpickle · 11/01/2025 09:04

Thanks @nebular

Any particular probiotic that you'd recommend?

Top tip is that it’s not a miracle drug. You need to ‘be on a diet’. I’ve been strictly calorie counting.

nebular · 11/01/2025 12:08

I have been using anything to be honest. The most recent ones are from the tictok shop.

nebular · 11/01/2025 12:29

Good luck, I can honestly say it has changed my life. I have always been obese and I am coming up to 4 stone down and just being overweight.

Squishedpickle · 11/01/2025 13:26

That is fantastic to hear @nebular congratulations!

Thank you @Coffeeandcinnamonbun definitely remembering that. What have you based your calorie target on?

I found it was a miracle drug at first as I was eating so much less than usual the weight fell off. But after a while it's like my body adapted and it got harder. So you may get a honeymoon period at first.

AmythestBangle · 11/01/2025 13:30

I use Nutracheck's calculation of calories needed.

IDontHateRainbows · 11/01/2025 13:33

I don't count calories but am doing the 16:8 or 20:6 approach ( time limited eating window) and it's made it not only possible, but easy.

Flapearedknave · 11/01/2025 13:36

Protein, multi vits( intake skin hair and nails), collagen (I use powder by 'feel'), water.

I also take psyllium husk for potential constipation.

Weight loss isn't linear, there will be weeks you maintain or increase, do not be put off. This is normal.

Do not increase dose unless you feel the effects waning, I wish I hadn't gone up so quickly, as I really didn't need to increase monthly.

I take it on a Friday so my worst side effects, tiredness and coldness are the worst over the weekend.

I am 6 and a half stone down. Best thing I have ever done for myself.

morbidcuriosity · 11/01/2025 13:57

Protein and Fibre, and drink lots of water
eat very clean to start with then slowly see what you can handle..

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 11/01/2025 13:57

We’ve had one of these threads before and once again my top tip(s) would be not to have ANY expectations and not to compare yourself to anyone else!

There are a plethora of posts all over social media stating how disappointed people are that they didn’t lose a stone in the first week as that it what happened to their hairdresser’s friend’s sister’s sister in law!

WeAllHaveWings · 11/01/2025 14:05

Everyone's tips will be very different, especially when it comes to whether supplements are needed or not. You could end up spending as much on protein powders/collagen and vitamins as you do the Mounjaro itself. So think about your own particular needs and not just what everyone else takes.

If you eat enough protein you don't need to supplement, if you are younger collagen might do nothing for you as you have enough of your own, if you don't suffer from constipation you won't need anything for it, probiotics are not necessary unless you have symptoms of an imbalance in your gut health etc.

Some (there are lots more!) to research and look into -

You don't need to increase you dose every pen, even if you have one of those providers that imply you do. Many users have stayed on lower doses and had significant losses.

If you are unlucky and someone who gets significant unpleasant side effects speak to your provider or local pharmacy for help - they can prescribe anti-sickness etc tablets.

There is extra liquid in each pen where you can unofficially take a fifth dose if you can access it. The hard twist method appears to no longer be working for newer pens so you will need a syringe (don't buy from amazon).

Always prime to check the needle is working before injecting. If prime or injection doesn't work try changing the pen needle. If your provider doesn't send a couple of spare pen needles with each order it is worth asking them to and/or buying a box.

Look at other threads about click counting once you are more confident with the medication and know how your body is responding. For your first pen stick with the standard 2.5mg for 4-5 doses.

Personally I think the suppression effect is 50% medication and 50% willpower/habit. Don't expect the pen to do it all for you.

Calorie count/food track using an app at least in the beginning - weigh and track everything including oils and spreads - MFP (free) or Nutracheck seem to be the most popular. Both track weight and calories/nutrients (such as protein) over the day/week. If you don't know your cutting calories you should be aiming for using the TDEE calculator.

  • weigh yourself but also take measurements and pictures
  • I liked electrolytes in the morning
  • you still need to eat healthy food with an emphasis on protein, anything fatty just made me feel awful
  • avoid alcohol
  • loads of water
Squishedpickle · 11/01/2025 22:02

Very helpful, thank you all!
