Hi,

Before I start - I have a phone appt booked with GP to discuss this tomorrow morning, but I think they're just going to say they don't endorse getting private prescriptions. Just looking at options just now

I'm looking at starting Mounjaro, my weight is climbing and it's contributing to stress and low mood. Literally dreaming about being so big.

I take a few different medications and wondered if anyone else did and was able to take a weight loss injection. I'm on contraceptive pill, Naproxen, amitriptyline and omeprazole. Been referred to neuro as have had periods of facial numbness and pins and needles among other stuff - I always have joint pain and fatigue (have had these even when a healthy weight).

I lost 2 stone last year through huge effort but have put it all back on.

Any thoughts or similar experiences?

When you apply for your prescription, you have to tell them which medications you take and what for. The pharmacist who prescribes the WLI will then assess your suitability. It is important to declare everything so that they can make the right decision in case any of your meds are contraindicated.

SilenceInside · 09/01/2025 17:40

I am not on those medications, but I have certainly seen people on these boards who are on them who are taking Mounjaro. The previous poster is correct that you declare what you are taking as part of the consultation and then that's taken into account before they prescribe it to you. You will also be told that the slower digestion that happens with Mounjaro can interfere with the absorption of the contraceptive pill so not to rely on that alone for contraception.

Is your BMI currently higher than 30?

I spoke the my GP also before starting and they were positive, said it would be far more effective than metformin (which they had previously tried) and wished me all the best with it. I hope yours is similar.

MJ can affect contraception so that’s something to look out for. Sorry don’t know about the other medication but have a look at the MedExpress consultation and this are the ones it asks about.

Thanks for the responses 😊 when speaking to GP this morning he said there were no contraindications between my medication and MJ. Thanks for the info provided above re the pill, I think I had read that somewhere but good to be reminded.

Still on the fence... and had kind of forgotten about the jagging yourself bit! Which makes me feel a bit funny. I feel like if I put it off and end up doing it I'll regret not having done it sooner, if that makes sense.

@roughtyping I used to be needle phobic but became better able to tolerate them during my first pregnancy. I don't find the injections to be triggering at all and you usually don't feel a thing. Not anything at all to the point that sometimes I have to watch just to make sure it's actually gone it. I honestly wouldn't let it be a thing that puts you off.

Orangesandlemons77 · 10/01/2025 15:50

Honestly it is a tiny jag / needle, hardly painful.

FlappingMadly · 11/01/2025 09:14

The needles are tiny, truly. Good luck!
