Older MJ users…what is your BMI goal?

Just wondering what BMI others are aiming for if you’re aged around 50 plus?
I’m quite tall and in my 20’s was comfortably 10.5st for years.
I’m now mid 50’s and started on MJ in Sept at BMI 33. I’m now 2st lighter and BMI 29. Would like to lose another 2st to put me at BMI 25.

Is this too ambitious? Smart BMI says I should be fine around BMI 27.

If you’re ‘older’ what are you aiming for?

I am aiming for 25.

I'm nearly 51, and am now at target weight (9 stone 13, and 5 foot 3).
BMI is 24.6. I've lost 3 and a half stone on MJ. (have been off it for around 3 weeks now - have gained 2 lbs which is not too bad as it's been Christmas!)
I could lose a few more pounds (I still have a bit of fat around my abdomen), but to be honest I think I might start looking gaunt. I've lost a lot from around my chin/neck area and I think any more would not look very nice. It's ageing and the skin isn't 100% elastic any more!
I'm going to concentrate on strength training to try to rid myself of the belly (I already do lots of exercise) and to generally maintain my weight and muscle mass.

@Orangesandlemons77 I am 5’2” as well and also aiming for 9 stone which seems a perfectly sensible weight but is 23 bmi. Where are you seeing it as 26-27??

I actually think bmi is a load of bollocks! Outdated and created based on men’s bodies. But, it is what we have and we have to work with it. I do reckon 9 stone is a reasonable weight for a (apparently) small framed woman who carries a fair amount of muscle. I have taller friends who are that weight and look a bit gaunt but if I get nearer and don’t like what I see/how I feel, I shall stop at a higher weight.

Yes I looked at the BMI calculator after this and realised I had made a mistake. It's such a long time since I was that weight and I think 9stone 6 ish was about my preferred weight then. (20s)

I'm 57 and 5'2". I started at BMI 32 with a goal of getting to 25 which I hit back in October. Like so many of us, I then realised it might be a good idea to aim for the middle rather than the top of the healthy range. I think most of us aim for the top because just getting there feels like an almost impossible goal! but of course it puts us on the edge of sliding back into overweight again.

Now I'm stable at BMI 23, about 5lb below my initial target. I could lose more to get the the middle of the range, but this feels comfortable and healthy.

Other factors are that I have a nice psychological anchor of staying under a nice round number (i think in kg so it's staying under 60kg, about 9 stone 6) so aiming a couple of kg below that and knowing I can fluctuate without getting despairing is a safe mental place for me.

The age-related one is that my skin hasn't snapped back, and I have crepeyness on my arms, belly and thighs. I'm doing lots of weight training and building muscle to replace the lost fat volume, but don't want to go too low as I'll just look more saggy. I think this is the original meaning of 'skinny' rather than its current use as a word for slimness!

I'm 53 and my aim is the same as it's always been I think - I want to be as low as possible yet still look and feel half decent

I'm currently about 23.3 BMI - started at 36. I'm 9 stone 8. So I think I'm going to aim for about 9 stone 2 - so when I say 'as low as possible' I don't mean 7 stone 😀

When I started I couldn't possibly imagine be anything less than 11 stone so I'd told myself I'd stop at 10 stone 13. Then I said BMI 25. And now I just feel like not getting off the train a stop too early - to use a crap analogy. I don't have to settle for being a bit overweight still, I can be what I was a couple of decades ago.

So my age doesn't hugely come into it - I'm as clothes obsessed as I ever was Grin

I'm 52, 5ft 1 and at my target weight of 9 stone. I didn't have a BMI target, just a weight target and wanted to feel happy with my weight - which I am.

Just calculated my BMI and it's 23.
