Move from Mountjaro to Ozempic?

I'm interested in whether anyone did this as I've seen people doing the reverse - as Mountjaro seems to be more effective in terms of faster weight loss.

I tried Mountjaro but had such awful side effects I quit after 6 weeks. I was ill and miserable and felt much better when I stopped (although I'm still dealing with residual GERD) but I was obviously disappointed it didn't work for me. I wondered would it be worth trying Ozempic and whether it might have fewer side effects. Has anyone tried this?

Ozempic is for diabetes only, you won't be prescribed it for weight loss.

Did you try omeprazole? That was a game changer for me with mounjaro, but you need to take it properly, one a day for 14 days.

Ozempic is semaglutide.

The Ozempic equivalent for weight loss is wegovy id you want to try that!

InkHeart2024 · 07/01/2025 05:02

Wegovy (not ozempic) has different side effects to Mounjaro so it's worth trying. I didn't like wegovy as I didn't find it as effective and it gave me terrible constipation but I didn't get tummy aches the way I did on Mounjaro in the early stages.

I'm prescribed ozempic, as that's what my consultant could guarantee a supply of when I started. I haven't tried the other to compare, but I'm now over 3 stone lost in 3 months, and apart from the first week and one week where she increased my dose, I've been fine. Decreased the following week and still loosing.

Me! I started on Ozempic and then Wegovy (both the same drug - Wegovy is the one licensed for weight loss). Plateaued and wanted to try Mounjaro. Mounjaro was great for a few months and then I developed an aversion to it and the side effects were awful even at lower doses than I had been on. I am back to Wegovy as my name implies and it is going fine so far - up to 1 mg at the moment. Worth a try as they are different.

Thank you that's very helpful! My jab journey may not yet be over then!

Considering injectables such as Mounjaro, etc.
But the thought of injecting myself scares me.
Any tips please. How much does it hurt. Do you get used to it.

SilenceInside · 23/04/2025 12:25

@OssieShowman

How much does it hurt? - it doesn't hurt at all, can't even feel it most of the time. It's a tiny short very fine needle, it really is nothing at all.

Do you get used to it? - well, yes, as in I no longer need to read the instructions each time, and it takes me no time at all to do the injection. But as it's never actually hurt, there's nothing to get used to there.

The most relevant question is whether you qualify for a prescription. Assuming you are in the UK, you need a BMI of 30 or more, or a BMI of 27 or more with a weight related health condition, or a BMI of 27 or more whilst being one of a list of ethnicities where obese is defined as starting at a BMI of 27.

My sister has been on ozempic for a year with no side effects. I have been thinking of trying jabs and probably go for wegovy hoping genetic relationship would work for me and no side effects.

Than you ‘SilenceInside’
I’m in Aus. There has been a huge shortage of weight loss injectables.
I am pre diabetic. But would need to talk to Dr. to discuss things.
But wondering if I could overcome personal issues of fear of injection's and pain.
Your reply has helped. Thanks
