Strange issue with MedExpress, think I need a new supplier

Last week sent me an email thanking me for my order but I hadn’t placed an order so ignored it.

I read the email again and it said they couldn’t process my order as my GP details weren’t valid 😵‍💫 they are, but ok, just thought ok this is an error and sent by mistake.

Got a follow up email saying you haven’t replied and your GP doesn’t exist.

I said that the GP Surgery does exist and I’d seen communication from Med Express scanned onto my medical records at my surgery.

They replied and said the surgery doesn’t exist!

They then said if it does I have to send a ‘summary of care’ report to them.

Now I could try and do this but my surgery are DREADFUL at providing info and for context information I’ve asked for regarding my daughter took 4 months to get.

I not stuck for no logical reason as I need the pen for my next month supply.

I’ve been ordering MJ since August from MedExpress.

Is there another supplier that is easy to switch to? I found MedExpress very easy and issue free.

The GP surgery is very much there and I say a quick google confirms this.

Anyone else had similar?

I've seen various people on this board post that MedExpress have unexpectedly asked for GP records. Some people sent back screen shots from their NHS app showing their GP information and health records.

Switching is generally easy, so if you want to change (and assuming your BMI is still over 30?) you just pick a supplier and fill out their consultation form. There'll be a question about whether you're currently using a WLI, which one and which dose.

I had this too. They wanted all my gp records and said send screenshots from the app? But I am in Scotland and we don’t seem to have this here. I have switched provider.

I’m going to have this issue as I’m in Northern Ireland.

Who did you switch to?

Swap now to one with sensible maintenance policies. It isn't difficult at all.

Would a new provider not take me in if my BMI is slightly under 30? 😟

I think that some of the big suppliers might automatically turn down anyone that doesn't meet the prescribing criteria, without any nuance. There are some threads in this section about smaller pharmacies that do take people on who have been using mounjaro for a while and can show evidence of previous prescriptions. Ones that are geared up for maintenance plans are usually ok for this.

Also, if you have a weight related medical condition like high BP then a BMI of 27 or higher would be ok for most suppliers.

Zava is worth a try, price wise in a similar ball park to MedExpress (with code) and I haven’t heard of any weird GP things like that.

i did see someone say they’d been turned down at BMI 28 despite being a previous user but worth trying

Azuresky68 · 04/01/2025 11:50

It's easy to change provider. You will probably be asked to give proof of existing medication you are on eg photo of packet or prescription. A time dated photo of yourself is usually asked for. As you aren't far off maintenance I suggest you switch to a provider offering maintenance. I am currently with Ousch but I understand Cloud also offers a plan. Ousch don't offer referral codes so I have nothing to gain by recommending them but they are very responsive and easy to deal with. They have special offers and there is one now which expires soon. It's all on their website. They have a FB page too which lists current discounts under features.

Azuresky68 · 04/01/2025 11:55

I forgot to say that you can switch when under 30 BMI if you can give evidence that you have been on the medication for a while. You can also phone Ousch and Cloud for advice about this. I suspect phone lines will be very busy due to NY resolutions!

@ILoveLeopard245 I'm in Scotland too and been ordering from them since may time and never had an issue. I can see that they have contacted my GP as it was noted on my repeat prescription

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 04/01/2025 11:58

The majority will with proof that you have been on MJ for a while (i.e. a photo of the prescription label from the most recent pen box or a screen shot of evidence from your last prescriber).

ThatsNotMyTeen · 04/01/2025 11:58

Cloud pharmacy have a maintenance policy. That’s who I switched to after MedExpress

Yeah maybe it is regional. I’ve been ordering with them since sept till now without any bother and they had already informed my gp. I then got an email from med express that said:
“Our Pharmacy team has attempted to share your prescription details with your GP. However, your GP surgery has informed us that they are not responsible for assessing the appropriateness of the prescription and, therefore, did not confirm any details with us.” And they asked for my medical history etc
my gp wrote to me and said they weren’t the prescribers and it was up to med express to assess their own clients.
anyway I have gone with the family chemist for now.

I was with Med Express for my first two pens.. then had same problems.
I switched to Ashcroft.. no problems at all. Sent out next day.

So far I've not had any issues with MedExpress but I've definitely seen more people recently who have. Sudden request for medical records has come up a few times and I suspect is because they've had a lot of media attention.

I think if your BMI is now under 30 and you run into any issues with new places I would approach a supplier who does personal consultations so you can explain the situation. Or maybe go via a private GP who will be able to look at your prescribing history with MedExpress.

Shasmac · 04/01/2025 12:20

I think this sounds like a scam. Why would they have a legitimate cause to hold ALL your medical records? I would hazard a guess and say they are looking to sell them.

SilenceInside · 04/01/2025 12:22

It's much more likely that they are concerned about getting sanctioned by the GPhC and are trying to show they're doing due diligence. Badly, it seems!
