What happens when you stop?

Not intended as a goady thread, I am genuinely interested in people's experiences. I am very, very tempted to go down the mounjaro route. Having read so many positive stories on here, I truly believe it could work for me, in fact I think it's the answer I have been looking for my whole adult life. I am 50 and have never managed to regulate my appetite, have felt all those feelings of self loathing, have been a yoyo dieter, etc etc. Have currently sort of given up at my heaviest ever weight.
So my question is, if I go for it, switch off the food noise, lose the weight, feel amazing etc... what happens when I stop? Is the change permanent? Or will I just revert to all my old habits. Anyone willing to share their experience I would be very grateful.

I want to thank you all for sharing your experiences and your carefully considered reasons for taking the medication, as well as your thoughts and plans for what to do when you have lost the weight. I haven't come to any conclusions yet, there's obviously the cost to factor in, and if I need to stay on a maintenance dose long term that's quite a consideration. I do believe I would achieve the peace of mind and freedom from food I am searching for, I think I'm almost scared to achieve this in case I lose it again at some point. I think I will make an appointment with my GP just to at least talk it through and get another opinion. I wish you all success on your weight loss journey, whatever that looks like for you.

I’ve been off MJ for 6 weeks after 7 months and 3.5 stone weight loss. I was only taking 3mg for the last month on it.

Sadly my bad habits are back with a vengeance and I have regained 7 lb with alcohol and snacking . I will need to take myself in hand to prevent regaining. I can see how habitual this is though and what I need to do differently- avoid self sabotage and limit access to crap

I was only on ozempic for 4 months. I lost 1 stone but was very sick. I have been off of it for 18 months and am 1.5 stone heavier.
It absolutely got worse after. The food noise, the cravings etc was all so much worse.

I'm also keen but worry about this.

So this is what I'm worried about, it would become yet another failed weight loss because I would self sabotage when I come off it. I have had years of yoyo dieting and always, always gain more weight each time. It's depressing. I can see this would have to be a life long medication and I worry about long term side effects, never mind the cost.

I've been taking Mounjaro for 6 months now, and may be taking it for another 6 months to get to my goal weight in the healthy weight range. I have never managed to lose weight consistently for this length of time. It's already been clearly beneficial to my health and will continue to be whilst I continue to lose weight. That alone is worth it, no matter what happens when I get to goal weight.

What I now know is that my BMI need never go back up to 35, 40 or 50 as it was when I started taking Mounjaro. If I regain, having been off the medication, I can restart it if necessary. I won't ever be morbidly obese again. Of course, my aim is to maintain a healthy weight but it's very reassuring to know that Mounjaro is there as a back stop. The yo-yo ing won't ever reach the highest BMI range in future, if any yo-yo ing happens.

Also, over time, new forms of these GLP-1 medications will be developed. It may well be that in a few years a cheaper tablet form may be available too.

I took Mounjaro for 5 months and lost 3 stone. I got to my initial goal weight and was able to throw my blood pressure medication in the bin.
I “took a break” at the beginning of December and seemed to gain half a stone overnight 😳. The. Christmas eating and drinking saw me go up to 11 stone. I’m going to try to lose the weight without going back on the injections. One of the things I learned while taking them is that weight loss is actually very slow after the initial stages but you just have to keep the faith and carry on. I calorie tracked with nutra check and am continuing to do so.

im training for some running events this year so could probably do without the fatigue and appetite suppressant that MJ brings (although I’ve not managed to train for a marathon without gaining weight yet 🤣)
