Different experience if never been slim?

I've been doing a lot of reading around and I've just ordered my first Mounjaro pen to get started this month - nervous but excited!

I've noticed though that a lot of people on here refer to the excitement of fitting back into old clothes or being as slim as they were in their 20s. I have never been slim, I've swung between overweight and obese since childhood. I have no idea what I would look like slim, and it feels completely out of reach.

I need to lose 5 stone to hit the top end of a healthy BMI, and I am in my early thirties if that's relevant. Has anyone with a similar background been able to actually get to a healthy weight for the first time on this?

I hope that makes sense, feeling a bit muddled and emotional about it all!

Hello, I am you but 3 and a bit months ahead.

I first went to Weight Watchers when I was 11 years old, have been as much as 21 st and did manage to lose some weight a few years ago and mainly keep it off but only to about the 16st range. I have never as a teenager or adult been below 'obese'.

Until now.

I'm currently 12st 8.5lb and BMI of 26.8, been using Mounjaro since the beginning of September, I've lost 3 st during that time.

I have 1 st left to get into the Healthy BMI range, which honestly is twisting my brain a bit. I have absolutely no frame of reference for what I as an adult will look or feel like as a 'normal' weight person. I've never been below a size 16 as an adult, hell I was wearing size 16 clothes when I was 15 yrs old. I've just replaced all my size 22s with size 16 and had to try on 3 fleeces in Tesco the other day because I instinctively picked up the XXL and had to keep going till I realised I would actually need a M.

It's really weird.

Every single memory and photo I have of myself I have been a fat old or a fat woman. Now I'm trying to come round to the idea that soon I won't be. I won't feel like The Hulk next to all my slim friends and colleagues.

Mounjaro has been a miracle, I can't speak highly enough for how wonderful I think this medication is.

This is my spreadsheet by the way, I keep it because I'm a geek who loves Excel and because seeing it 'on paper' motivates me because I find it difficult to see in the mirror. My mental image of myself has not kept up with physical reality so I still see a size 22 person.

My sister is on Wagovy and it's been absolutely life changing!

We had a traumatic childhood and I went down the drugs/alcohol route and I'm now in lifelong AA. My sister, however, has never touched drugs, but has never been able to moderate her eating. I truly believe that disordered over eating is a mental health problem similar to addiction. She has been on every diet imaginable but was never able to sustain anything until she started Wagovy. She has gone from a dress size 24 to a dress size 14 in about 18 months.

It wasn't easy. She did feel sick at first. But it worked very quickly and her appetite for over consumption has just completely disappeared. I probably eat more than her now and I'm size 8. For the first time she doesn't feel ashamed of her body. Getting quite emotional typing this! She used to worry about fitting into the seat on the aeroplane, things like that. It's been her lifelong battle but she finally seems to have mastered it.

I wish the very very best of luck, a new life awaits you it's very very exciting. You will not look back ❤️❤️❤️

I started mounjaro in March and have lost about 6 stone in that time. I am now a healthy BMI and am getting used to a 'normal' body. I have always been big from pre teen days. It has been life changing I feel amazing, younger fitter healthier and happier. I am wearing fashionable clothes in sizes I only ever dreamed of. I've been lucky and had very few side effects. I stayed on each dose for as long as it was 'working' I'm now on 7.5mg. This year will be about coming off mounjaro and maintaining my new healthy weight. It has been life changing for me and I have 0 regrets!! Good luck. Any questions feel free to ask

This made me a bit emotional, thank you! I'm so pleased you've had such a positive experience :) That really gives me hope. It just feels like an impossible dream sometimes, you know?

I love your spreadsheet!!! I might steal that idea.

Thank you :) I'm so sorry you and your sister had such a difficult start, but amazing that you've both been able to overcome it.
