Those who have been referring what are the parameters? Do you have to be diabetic to be eligible?

I’m not gonna tell you how big I am, but I’m very very big and I’m telling you now the only way you can get weight loss injections by your GP is to be diabetic which is absolutely ridiculous but there you go

When you’ve got uncontrolled diabetes that has failed 3 other medications, then diabetes can refer you.
Nothing to do with the gp here, thankfully!

refered to what op?

if you mean prescribed then gp’s cannot as yet prescribe for weight loss. Only weight loss clinic can do that. Tier 3, the doctor refers you to this, they can prescribe, but it’s over 40 bmi with other health issues. And obviously they will do everygung to help you lose weight before prescribing,

weight loss clinics have an average 8 months wait list.

I'm overweight with diabetes and high blood pressure. I can't get the injections without going through the weight loss programme. GP said no, diabetic nurse can't understand why not.

The paremeters are moveable feast (ha) but where I live:

obesity
type 2 diabetes and
high BP and/or high cholesterol.

it’s then a referral to tier 3 weight loss (1yr program, I waited 7mth to get onto it). Complete the yr and then IF the tier 3 has a prescriber (mine did not) you may be prescribed.

I paid and am now 30 odd kg down in 9mths.

Thanks for this. Just wanted to get idea if it’s worth visiting the Gp about it. I’m pre diabetic range so would probably not offer any help

If you google 'oviva right to choose' you may be able to get a referral depending on the local referral rules

The only help they can give is refer you to tier 3 weight loss management clinic. They are not permitted to offer anything else.

if referred then once you’ve waited you will have many many meetings to discuss your diet, have them monitor you, etc, before they then decide if something more significant is required.

so you’re likely looking at about 2 years before that time, when you take into account waiting 8 months to even get accepted.
