Food tracking app recommendations

I am hoping to start on MJ in January and trying to get “things” arranged in advance to give me a bigger chance of success.

What food tracking app do people use? Ideally that also flags protein and fibre intake too?

I don’t really want to follow an organised diet which might come with an app, rather focus on generally what I’m eating and portion control which I know have got out of control! So looking for something that helps me track what I’m eating rather than a sort of dieting app (e.g. weight watchers etc).

I’m lurking on the new starter threads and will
join once I’ve ordered, but also grateful for any other new starter tips??

Thanks!

MyFitnessPal works for me.

PermanentTemporary · 29/12/2024 07:45

I use myfitnesspal, I don't bother with the nutrition side but it's there. I find it flexible and pretty easy to use.

WeAllHaveWings · 29/12/2024 07:47

I use the free My Fitness Pal. Nutracheck is also popular on here, but think it has an annual cost.

letshavetea · 29/12/2024 07:48

I didn’t get on with my fitness pal, but I do like fat secret which I use alongside monitor my weight (graph of weight loss).

Username917778 · 29/12/2024 07:53

I love Nutracheck and found the annual cost well worth it. It really helped me with how I saw food and understand what I was really eating. I don't think I'll renew it in April when the year is up though as I don't think I need it now, but I really found it so useful.

CookieMonster28 · 29/12/2024 07:55

I really like Lose it!

MoonieDoo · 29/12/2024 08:07

I use Nutracheck as it's UK based. You can scan barcodes which makes adding foods so easy, and you can save your own regular meals. For £6 a month it's worth it.

unsync · 29/12/2024 08:23

MyNetDiary is great. Really easy to use and gives you everything you could possibly need. I was so impressed with the free version, I actually went ahead and got the subscription version. I find it super helpful, but also unobtrusive. I couldn't get on with mfp so dug around and found this instead.

Questions1234 · 29/12/2024 08:28

Thanks all for the super speedy suggestions. I think I like the look of the Nutra Check and have signed up for the trial. However, I can’t seem to figure out if there’s an option to save recipes on there? E.g. add all the individual ingredients for a home made spaghetti bolognaise, then in future, just add the spaghetti bolognaise rather than the individual ingredients. I’ve messaged the customer support, but don’t suppose anyone here knows? Thanks!

Press Meals and then create! Might look different if you're not on an iPhone maybe?

It's a great app, I love it

Another vote for My Fitness Pal here. I like Nutracheck for logging weight loss though, their chart is more motivational and I like it shows BMI!

PoemsForTea · 29/12/2024 08:39

I use Lose It, preferred it to MFP

Questions1234 · 29/12/2024 08:40

Sorry - scrub that. Found it under my meals!

Nutracheck - I pay £23.99 a year for it.

Under 'my meals' the create the recipe there and it'll save for you

I use ParrotPal (UK based), and I love it. It focuses on cals, steps and protein and encourages progress over perfection…. It also allows you voice log your meals! And if you don’t know the calorie content it uses an average from it’s database.

Nutracheck!
there's a free version with a limited number of items you can add or it's £27 per year, worth it for just a couple of £ per month, you can pay monthly too but it's £6 per month that way.

ekorn · 13/10/2025 12:37

Nutrivio is another UK-based app. It can read barcodes in the free version, but its standout feature is Strava sync, so you can track both calorie intake and calories burned, and balance them according to your goals.
