Thinking of starting Mounjaro worried about possible contraindications

So I’m pretty well read on the whole Wegovy/Mounjaro/Ozempic stuff and am aware that pancreatitis and gallbladder issues can be something to be aware of as well as the existence of problems in these areas being contraindications.
I have never experienced problems with either but had the horrific experience of watching my father die of Pancreatic Cancer aged 69. I worry that, whilst I may not be predisposed to developing this type of cancer, I could be asking for trouble by taking one of the injectable weight loss drugs.
I’m wondering what the best way would be to talk through my concerns before deciding whether to seek a prescription might be. I’ve mentioned to GP and she didn’t seem overly keen to discuss since NHS are not prescribing unless for diabetes. That’s fair enough but where can I go to ensure I make the decision as safely as possible? Even reputable online pharmacies seem to only offer a tick box consultation in reality. I would like to be really sure I’m not taking any needless risks.

GPs and providers are unlikely to be able to give you more information than you will have found in your research - obesity is a significant risk factor for pancreatic cancer. WLI some concerns have been raised/no direct link found/but it is an area of interest and studies are ongoing.

You could go on the Eli Lilly website and use their online Chat or 'contact us' via email to see if they can provide any information to allay your concerns.

Alternative is a private consultation with an endocrinologist if you can afford it to discuss. I do not think they will be able to give you a definite answer, but might give you enough information to balance any WLI risks with the risk of remaining obese.

there doesn’t seem a risk of pancreatic cancer associated with mounjaro? Pancreatitis yes, but not cancer?

however I don’t think asking on line is the answer, speak to an endroconologist, you will have to do this privately , you will not find one willing to do this for free I’m afraid,

Thank you both for taking the time to reply. I have done a bit more reading and think that the best thing to do would be to sign up via one of the providers that offer a little more support including blood screening throughout. I think this may reassure me more. I don’t have any more risk on the pancreatic side of things (I don’t think) than other folk but obviously such a distressing experience has left its mark rather so I’d like to feel as though I am taking sensible caution. Good point though about the fact that obesity itself is a risk increaser!
