Thinking about it…

So, I’m thinking about going for MJ.

I’ve been on the cusp of overweight/obese almost all my adult life (now 45). Size 16 or occasionally up to 18. But five years ago I lost 4 stone and was a size 10/12 for about three years and that was wonderful. Did it with low carb and exercise. However, illness and a very stressful period at work means I took my eye off the ball and I’m now back to a size 16 and BMI 30 and I feel lousy and have lost self confidence.

I have been researching pretty obsessively and have almost decided to go for it but I just have a couple of questions, mostly about cost. How are people finding the ongoing financial commitment? And, do you switch frequently to find the best offers or stay with one provider? It looks to me as though you get much better deals by switching, but I’m worried that I’m so near the cut off for eligibility (only just over 30 BMI) that if this thing works I’ll soon be below it, and then will I be able to switch provider?

No help but jumping on to follow this thread as I’m seriously considering starting in Jan (as is DH). I lost 2.5stone at the beginning on 2024 with will power alone but then plateaued in the summer and then kind of gave up the dieting and I’m still where I was. I know that the next 2 stone is much harder for me to lose, the only time I have managed to drop it as an adult was before our wedding and I’ve had 3 children since then. I’d love to be wedding weight by the summer. DH has 3/3.5 stone to lose.

I haven't switched as I'm happy with my provider and I am very fortunate that the costs are not much of an issue for me. If I was pushed to afford it then I would probably switch frequently to take advantage of new customer discounts.

It is potentially harder to switch if your BMI is already near the cut off point. You'd need evidence of your current prescription eg keep the box with the named and dated prescription label. Some of the bigger providers might just say no by default and not be interested in a conversation. Smaller providers might be more likely to deal with your specific circumstances. I think Oushk are known for being more open to discussion and individual circumstances than a lot of others.

Hi; I'm also thinking about it.
What I'm worried about is 'hanger' and energy levels impacting my ability to exercise.
90% of the time I get in 10k steps but I'm still fat as I that's from rushing about and I don't do any cardio.
I also get hangry and I'm worried I'll be worse injecting.

It suppresses your appetite and means you feel fuller for longer. I don't get hangry at all whilst on Mounjaro, even on days where my step count is nearer to 20k than 10k. I find my energy levels are much higher than before. Some people find the opposite though.

@SilenceInside that's really helpful thank you

Thanks very much, that’s really helpful. It’s like I suspected - better to look at the whole cost without initial discounts and be sure I can afford that as I might not be able to switch. Luckily I think it’s doable. Hopefully too I won’t need to go up to the highest and most expensive doses - I keep seeing people who stay on lower doses so perhaps I’ll be lucky and be one of them.
