Constipation and jab site

Apologies in advance if this is TMI! I started MJ in October and have lost around 30lbs so far. I have always struggled with constipation but have been using Dulcoease and Fibocalm to help things along. I also try to drink a lot of water. Last week I injected into my abdomen and ended up in Urgent Care with hideous piles and chronic constipation. I’m terrified to jab this week but I think I will do my thigh again as I’m sure injecting into my stomach makes things worse. Has anyone else experienced this? I’ve been lucky not to have any other side effects but this latest bout of constipation and piles has left me completely debilitated.

What did urgent care recommend for prevention and treatment?

Did they ok continuing this week?

I've seen some people suggesting glycerin suppositories can help, but if yours if so bad it requires urgent care I would follow whatever their advice was.

I’ve never heard of mj giving you piles, so I assume you had them already, have been straining, and to such an extent you needed hospitalised?

anecdotally the drug can have more effect into the tummy, but I’d suggest this was due to the fact you haven’t been eating the right stuff. So I have a daily psyllium husk and prunes/figs.

you need to be careful on your diet. Did the doctors not give you advice?

Yes I’m a little shocked too. If someone is hospitalised under urgent care, I’d have thought the medical staff would have given advice, and you’d not be thinking it was the location of the jab and wondering what to do.

The Dr had never heard of MJ! I had to explain what it was.
I have had piles before but only a couple of really bad attacks over many years, and yes, it was down to the constipation and straining on the toilet.
Ive bought prunes, pysillium husks and have some laxative sachets. He gave me some cream which has just started to work on the piles.
No medical advice apart from taking laxatives 🙄
Ive got an appointment with my GP booked and I’m going to speak to a clinician from my provider. Just wondered if the site affected anyone else or if it’s just a coincidence.
Thanks

I had tried glycerin suppositories first- nothing doing! Weird as they worked the last time!

Wow, weirder and weirder. A doctor who had never heard of weight loss injections. Confused

Shrinkingrose · 27/12/2024 12:29

Op, I think it’s just a coincidence, as you can see from the sub forum people being hospitalised with piles and constipation at all never mind under urgent care is not common.

He said,”is it like that Ozempic?”
That was it!

when you told him it was similar to ozempic and constipation was a side effect surely he gave you some advice when you asked if ok to continue using it?

I don't think the injection site would make any difference to whether or not you get constipated. I would follow the usual advice that the urgent care gave you about how to address chronic constipation, and/or the generic advice from your Mounjaro prescriber about how to minimise the risk of constipation.

If you keep getting issues with constipation then maybe consider reducing your Mounjaro dose?

Yes, I’m not increasing the dose this month. The Dr didn’t say anything about not continuing- he said well done on your weight loss and he didn’t see any reason to stop. I think I now know to keep super hydrated and to up my fibre every day. Thinking back, I did struggle when I went keto a couple of years ago.
I do experience almost total suppression and have struggled to eat so maybe it’s a good lesson on having regular meals even when I’m not hungry!
Really appreciate the comments from everyone- thanks.

They gave me some creaam and laxatives and I’m beginning to feel far more human.
