High blood pressure

Since 8th November I’ve lost 1.5 stone, pleased with this. Had the cold bug for 7/8 days so felt crap, had routine blood tests, whilst had cold, iron anaemic so just to check all okay and blood pressure was 154/111. Anyway one week of home checks, twice a day, and only two of these were ‘not too bad’, 145/98. Anyone experienced increase in blood pressure?

feel okay though x

Mine dropped from 145/97 to 110/78 after a month on MJ

Mounjaro has been shown in drug trials to reduce blood pressure, so a raise in blood pressure is probably not likely to be a common side effect. My BP has dropped drastically since I've been on Mounjaro, from high to optimal.

Hopefully the raised BP is related to your being unwell and will resolve itself soon,

Pumpkinforever · 26/12/2024 23:19

Mine has dropped on MJ as I have lost weight and exercised more. I am on week 8 finishing my second pen.

visitbreakfast · 26/12/2024 23:25

I would consider whether your BP was already high before starting MJ, that's the most likely scenario and you only had them done by chance. Unless you were doing regular readings you would not know if there is a direct link.

unsync · 26/12/2024 23:29

What was it before? Mine was high before and one of the reasons for needing to lose weight. It's back down in normal range now I've lost over 25 kgs. If you are concerned, get a BP monitor. I had to monitor mine for two weeks, twice a day as requested by GP.

Shrinkingrose · 27/12/2024 07:06

It’s hugely unlikely mounjaro caused an increase in blood pressure, it does the opposite, but increased weight does, so it’s likely your Bp was already high and you didn’t know.

WorriedRelative · 27/12/2024 11:00

Are you drinking enough? Your hydration affects BP and MJ can mean you get dehydrated more easily.

crumbsonmyface · 27/12/2024 12:46

My blood pressure went up when I started mounjaro initially (and it goes up when I up my dose), but overall it has come right down :)

Thanks this is what I’ve read , don’t want GP to suggest stopping as losing weight is one of the things to do to reduce BP. For those asking it was within the normal range when I had it taken 3 months before, as I keep having blood tests it was also checked at that stage, Not sure when it actually started to increase in that period though x

Thanks that’s a good point I will make more effort with this x

Thanks yes I’ve got a monitor and will keep checking x

Thanks for all responses, it does seem weird, going to resist any suggestions of medication , hopefully it’s a blip and will return to its lower range. Losing weight, eating healthy, and exercising plus less alcohol is all good and on a positive note it is on my medical record and I’ve seen a GP and nurse and both barely acknowledged it so I’m seeming that as good also x

My blood pressure has actually gone down a bit since starting Mounjaro so no advice for you. But as previous poster say, if you monitor it 2 times per day for a week you'll have a better picture of what's going on.

deborahflores · 15/08/2025 06:26

I’ve noticed my blood pressure can spike temporarily when I’ve been unwell or run down, so it could be that your recent cold and low iron are playing a part. Recovery, hydration, and gentle activity sometimes help it settle, but it’s always worth keeping your GP updated if readings stay high.

I started keeping a daily log a while back, and it’s been useful to see patterns over time, especially alongside lifestyle tweaks like more potassium-rich foods and stress management. If you’re interested in tracking your readings alongside other health markers, Aspedan has a handy platform that lets you monitor things like blood pressure, weight, and overall wellness in one place. I’ve found it reassuring to have all the data in front of me when chatting to my doctor.

Hopefully once you’re over the cold and your iron levels improve, your numbers might start trending back down.
