Mounjaro realisation

I'm using mounjaro at the moment. Took a while to work for me but now I've lost 5 stone and feeling much better about myself. Decided to delay this week so I could enjoy Christmas meals... over the last 4 days I've put on 7lbs according to my scales and I'm terrified. The thought of putting weight back on is making me feel sick and I've realised I'll never be able to stop using the injections? I'll never be able to eat 'normally' or have a few bad days? I'm so disgusted at myself and just want to stop feeling hungry but this feels like madness, like a junkie?!

Op, you didn’t mention portion sizes, which will also have an effect. Over indulging is not just crisps and chocolate.

as others have said, much of this will be water, but the mounjaro eating was your new normal. Just slightly increased so you didn’t lose more, and titrating back down so you can slowly increase to find that new normal was key, then sticking to that to maintain

youre not alone. This forum had quite a few people posting they were wanting to come off so they could eat more over Xmas, Ie they planned to do so. And now we are seeing them horrified they have gained weight

in your op you say you’ll never be able to eat normally. And no if that normal is pre the drug, you can’t eat like you that, because that’s what made you obese. And yes you can over indulge, but no not a few bad days, generally if you over eat one day, you need to balance it out the next.

i am going to stay on long term because i recognise the truth for me is i would end up gaining it back and thats a health risk i cant afford. However i intend to get to target, then titrate down till i find the place where i maintain, and stick at that.

good luck, you can now diet for a few days without drugs, and it will come off. If you do restart, make sure it’s at 2.5 if it’s two weeks or so since last jab.

The comments above about understanding what 'over indulged' actually looks like, are important I think.

I have still tried to calorie track over the last couple of days, not easy to do but wanted to have some idea of how much I'd eaten.

Went to in-laws for lunch yesterday and I was lots more restrained than I would usually be, but even so that one meal was still in excess of 1000 calories. That was with only having 1 piece of roast potato (half a small potato), 2 little pigs in blankets, 1 little Yorkshire pudding (aunt Bessie the small ones), turkey breast, and then loading the plate with broccoli, carrots and peas. The individual Xmas pudding was 400 calories alone and it was smaller than a portion I would usually have been served from a big pudding.

Having said that you haven't gained 7lbs in a couple of days, your body couldn't create 7lbs fat in such a short time, this will be a combination of not enough water, too much salt, too much food, and not enough pooing.

Drink plenty of water, eat better for a couple of days then re-weigh.

WATER WATER WATER

Fruits and vegetables and absolutely no sugary drinks.

I think I’ve realised that I’ll have to go back to how I was in the ‘olden days’ when I was thin (hovered around 8-9 stone until I was about 35. I maintained this by running 30+ miles a week, several gym classes a week and doing things like lose a stone before Christmas so that I could eat and drink more over the festive period.

I’ve spent 15 years being lazy, sedentary and greedy. If that is my default mode then I’ll get fat again.

I stopped taking MJ 12 weeks ago after reaching my goal weight (62kg). This morning I’m 61kg (put on 0.4kg since last week due to Christmas excess). No, you can’t go back to ‘normal’. Yes, you have to work at it and change your lifestyle.

MintSpiesAtTheReddy · 27/12/2024 09:48

You are feeling something else and confusing it with hunger: boredom; sadness; or just an old habit of doing ‘something’ whilst in that situation

I think it could be hunger. Hunger is a feeling created by hormones, the same as the rest. It's quite possible for those hormones to be created/released even if you have eaten sufficiently to sustain yourself. The thing this drug has highlighted is how much our hormones can be out of whack with what we need.

This myth that 'it's not really hunger' strikes me of the bad days when everyone assumes fat people were too greedy and stupid to know how they feel.

If the poster says they felt hungry, then, imo, they felt hungry.

Everyone appears to be going for extreme answers here. You put weight on over Christmas, so what? Now you go back to eating in your new normal and it will come back off. You probably don’t need to go back on MJ to do that, unless you find you’re struggling to either lose the weight or to control your eating. Most thin people overindulge a bit at Christmas. Give yourself a break!

Well done ! In retrospect it would have been easier for me to stop MJ at a better time than 1st December as there have been so many temptations/ parties around. Good to hear that someone has been successful .
