TTC and Loosing Weight

A little background. I’m 32 and have been trying to conceive a second child for 2 years (DD is 4). We have had tests and have been diagnosed with Unexplained Secondary Infertility.

We are now considering IVF but all the cheaper packages require a BMI of under 30 and I’m currently just under 37.

I want to lose a bit of weight anyway as I am starting to notice the effects of my weight but I always struggle to lose weight.

I am considering weight loss injections but I know this means we will need to stop TTC whilst on these.

My current thoughts are to try 3 months on weight loss injections and see how it affects my weight. I want to balance giving the injections the best chance but also not postponing my TTC for too long. If I can get my BMI to under 30, I can save myself a lot of money on IVF too.

Do you think this is achievable?

Lowering your BMI would be good as obesity inversely affects fertility. I've heard stories of some women going on MJ to boost their fertility and regulated hormones, even insulin resistance and leads to having a child. Might be worth putting your stats to work out your BMI on nhs website as it also gives your ideal weight so it may give a guide of how much you need to lose. Most people who have lost 4-5 stones I've read can take anywhere between 4-6 months but everyone and their journey is different

Thank you for your response. I’ve read a few posts about MJ and fertility too but I know it’s not recommended to TTC whilst on it. I guess it’s due to unknown effects in pregnancy. I’ve calculated that if I lose about 15kg/33lbs, I will get down to a BMI of 29.4 which I feel like should be achievable in 3 months (roughly 3lbs a week) 🤞🏻

That's great! I've just lost a stone in 2.5 months but I started on 31.5 bmi so it's harder to lose. Good luck!

It had taken me a year to loose 3 and a half stone and I am still under 30 for my BMI. We should be going back to the hospital in the next 2 months. I am hoping for a good loss before going back. I would love to have my BMI under 30 so we can have IVF as soon as we possibly can. It had been a hard year, so strict dieting and exercising. Still not good enough, but I am keeping on going. Good luck in losing your weight
