Using past the 30 day mark

I know nobody can give me a definitive answer so I am more looking for opinions/experiences.

I have a 5mg pen, which I have been doing 2.5mg out of. I've just done my 5th (bonus) dose out of it. There's clearly a bit left. I am thinking of doing a final 6th dose next week just to get me over the end of the Christmas period as I am then stopping for good.

Has anyone done 6+ doses from the same pen and lived to tell the tale 😅 I am generally not that risk-averse on the whole, so it's not like I will stress over it if I do it but just wondered if anyone had any reactions or noticed that it wasn't working etc (as there's no point then!)

I'm about to go over the 30 days for the first time as I titrate down. I understand the risk is more to do with bacterial growth as the preservative is effective for about 30 days only rather than the drug reducing in efficacy. I haven't heard of anyone getting a nasty infection so that's giving me some confidence!

I guess we won't know till we do it but I've kept pen in the fridge and been very careful with cleanliness while using this pen, swabbing the opening before and after use particularly carefully. Good luck!

Thanks @KrankyKumquat I've done the same - it's always in the fridge and I've swabbed it each and every time!

Same as you when I went to 5mg it was too much so went to 3.75 and went over the 30 days. I was super careful with sanitising etc and it was fine for me, although I realise it is taking it against guidance.

It will be fine. I’d use it til it was all gone. Obviously, I am not a professional but my pharmacist friend says it’s madness to throw it out but advice has to be whatever the official line is. Just keep it sanitised and in the fridge.

I have been doing this since the summer and so far I'm still alive

I have taken a 6th dose 3 times (previous doses on days 0,7,14,21,28 then 6th dose on day 35).

Just 5 days over the 30 feels low risk and I am comfortable with my choice.

I wouldn't go any longer, too many unknowns that no-one except the Eli Lilly team who are the only people with access to the studies of chemical safety and stability of Tirzepatide or its preservatives and how they degrade could answer.

We, or even any Dr or pharmacists, can speculate off record based on general knowledge or the public information provided by Eli Lilly, or take the risk based on anecdotal evidence of apparently no issues to those that have tried it (who knows if there is a risk of slow or long term damage to your organs from changing compounds).

In the end, it is a risk, and it should come down to your own attitude to risk taking, not a "someone else did it and never died so it must be okay" type approach.

I agree other than Drs and pharmacists are basing their opinions on more than just general knowledge!

You have to decide for yourself.
