I'm starting in a couple of weeks and just thought it might be nice for people to post advice to newbies!

It might be good foods to have in/avoid?
Prep for side effects?
Expectations? Feelings?

Thankyou 😊

Ah that's interesting. I didn't know that yet for people like pp it's definitely working at a lower dose!

Yes, lots of people stay at the first step, and never hit a full dose, I think likely due to willpower, psychosomatic, cost and anxiety. Personally I think this is fine, if it works for the individual.

for me though, I have followed the manufacturers guidelines, and my doctor (High Bp only) had said the lower doses do very little, it’s when you move to the higher doses you start to see it work properly, and I’m on week 3 of 7,5 and I would say that’s correct, weight loss has speeded up.

5mg was dodgy for me the first two weeks, but wholly manageable, I think and hope my optimal dose is 10.

the drug isn’t just an aappetite suppressant, which is what lots of people are using it for. It also regulates insulin and ensures your blood sugar is stabilised, that is what fixes many health issue , from removing the anxious jittery feeling, the hunger , dizziness, nausea, fatigue etc, when on the correct dose, you start to feel fantastic, as if you suffer any of those issues, then the medication resolves and manages it.

howveer if you don’t have those issues, then using it as a simple appetite suppressant will work and thus a partial dose below the starting dose of 5mg can be successful

@WeAllHaveWings are you allowed to post your provider? Or DM me please

I have high blood pressure too, and staying on lowest dose it has dropped from around 118/80 (medicated) to around 98/73, I have an appointment with my Dr on 30th to discuss if I can come off or reduce blood pressure meds.

Even when I lost a similar amount of weight before my BP didn't drop as much, and my water retention/swollen ankles disappeared with MJ within the first couple of weeks too. The lowest doses are doing a lot for me, although I have read diabetics are recommended to increase for the best blood sugar control effects, but that is not necessary for weight loss only.

Thanks that's really helpful to know. I want All The Benefits!! But also mindful of losing weight "too fast". I'm morbidly obese so suspect there is lots to lose.

That's really helpful to bear in mind too. I want the long term plan not just what works while I'm in the zone. I can completely hett that the first few months might be partly the mentality of being on a diet and motivated to eat less as well as eating less due to nausea.

I'm with a provider who do consultations each month to help make the decision so I won't have to decide alone.

Yes, I think that’s also why folks who don’t do a full dose think it stops working. At some point the psychosomatic effect wears off, but mainly it seems it’s just a partial dose. And as they’ve hung around on a partial dose so long, their bodies react badly if they try to move up.

i lose on average 2.5 pounds a week, which is a healthy amount. and have moved up correctly in line with the guidelines, apart from the bonus doses.

my opinion is the years and years of trials, it takes approx 15 years before a drug is even first approved, and these drugs have been approved for 20 odd years in various guises, then the scientists and doctors probably know the drug better than folks on the internet anecdotally.

but in reality a lot of people are very successful and have never actually taken a full dose, but the reasons for that will vary.

Good luck! Mounjaro has helped me lose weight over the last few months, in a way that I just couldn't with calorie counting and going to the gym daily. Also seen drops in my blood pressure and feel a lot healthier.

One tip is if you feel a bit light headed or shaky, it's handy to keep glucose tablets on hand. I woke up shaking in the night and didn't realise my blood sugar had dropped a lot. I still get this every few weeks, but now I know having a couple of the dextrose glucose tabs just sorts me right out :)

My top tip is to remember that you still need to diet and count calories. MJ just makes it easier.

Lola3034 · 21/12/2024 19:53

So many good tips covered in the coments above! I wish we had all that when we all started 😄.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 21/12/2024 20:41

It's brilliant isn't it! Thankyou all 😍

Just to mention 2.5 not being a dose. No, it isn't technically a dose, but it worked for me for three months. I've lost 2 stone in that time, and have only just gone up to 5mg. I have never had 'suppression' in the sense that I can't eat a proper meal, it has just curbed my hunger and helped me so much not snack or overeat. I'm not losing as fast as many people, but it is a steady and, I hope, sustainable loss. You have to find what suits you.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 23/12/2024 08:26

Thankyou yes it helps so much to read people's experiences. I think from the study they used 5 10 and 15 as doses. So 2.5, 7.5 and 12.5 are all just to get you to those doses. So I think it's based on the study - and as 5 10 and 15 were the studies doses those are what gets considered doses.

My emotions have gone all over the place since deciding - excitement to be "doing something with a chance of success" unlike things I've tried before to fear at how long 10 stone will take etc.

I'm so grateful for these boards and all the lovely posters on this thread! It's less scary when people can tell you about it.

Absolutely it does work like that for many people, they just want the edge taken off to help them, and that’s fine. Plenty of others want/need the full benefits, as the drug is way more than a very minor appetite suppressant. It’s fab you have the will power and don’t need even a dose. And for any one like you . As you said everyone has to do their own thing.

it’s proven though we can all sustain, as people only regain 14 percent of their body weight back on stopping on average, so 1.4 stone on a ten stone woman. Which compared to 100-120 percent of what was lost on other diets, is a huge win. I’m not sure they’ve got the data for anyone who never has a dose, suspect it’s on those who use it as per the guidelines, but hopefully it’s the same

Lola3034 · 23/12/2024 13:19

In my opinion, there is no point to rush through the doses. If the dose works for you, no point to go up, many people never reach the highest dose and have fantastic losses. Listen to your body and decide what's best for you. Some people have amazing suppression on the smallest of doses and some need higher doses just to feel the difference.
