How long does it take...

I know this could be a piece of string question but...

*. How long do you think it took you to "stabilise" on mounjuro. Was it weeks or months would you say?

*Does it affect you each time you go up a dose?

I want to also start adhd medication and my reply was that I needed to be stabilised on one before I start the other. Neither are going through my (unhelpful) GP so am just trying to think through All The Things.

I could start MJ now and likely adhd appointment is February would that give me time for MJ to "settle down"? (2 or 3 months) or not really.

Id like to get going with MJ (morbidly obese) and thinking if I start now I'm off for 2 weeks and happy to have side effects while off work.

But should I be thinking it is longer.

And will it make me exhausted?

I am compeltely aware this isn't a medical answer it's random people online. But I'd love to hear rela people's experiences!!

Hi OP,

I'm just about to do my 6th injection. So far, I've only titrated to 3.75mg. I have had nausea/uncomfortable fullness, but no major side effect issues. However, you're supposed to go up in dose every 4 weeks, and the side effects do change every time you do that. Having said that, I think most of the people who don't tolerate MJ and have to stop seem to do so within the first 2 months? That's based on anecdotal evidence.

I think the idea of changing one medication at a time is right, as you need to be able to know which effect and side effect comes from which drug. But I think you need to have your GP on board as that will be the person who sees the full picture, rather than specialists who only look at the one drug they're prescribing to you... I speak from experience - I'm trying to get two separate oncology teams and an endocrinologist to co-ordinate their treatments, and it's super difficult.

Best of luck!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 19/12/2024 07:47

Thankyou.

In an ideal world I'd try adhd meds first so I know exactly what they do but that might be several months away and then needing that to stabilise would be several months again before starting MJ. I'm morbidly obese and would like not to have to wait 6months to start...

I guess the adhd meds might have some appetite suppression too. But at my weight I think I will need the MJ too.

The adhd provider just said to do either one first just not together. So I could potentially start MJ now. I'm so fed up of being in this body and now I've realised medication will be the way forwards. I want to start. Now....

My Dr doesn't like fat people...

How has it been for you weight loss wise? And who are you getting MJ through and how are you doing 3.75? I like the idea of slowly building up.

You won't really know how you will respond until you try but I'd say 4 weeks in you'll know if you'd be ok. I'd say I was stable about 6 weeks in. (I'll be 10 months at the end of this month and I'm 8st 4 down!!!)

InkHeart2024 · 19/12/2024 07:53

I found the 2nd month was tough, going up to 5mg gave me tummy issues so I stayed on it for 2 months and by month 4 I'd say I was stabilised. Going up to 7.5mg was no bother nor any dose increase since.

I have a prescription from my private endocrinologist. I am insulin resistant, so it's prescribed for that rather than purely for weight loss.
However, my local pharmacy was a bit rubbish, so I've been using MedExpress to get the pens now. I sent them the letters and prescription from the endocrinologist, and it was no hassle.

To get to 3.75, you can count clicks on the pen. It's super easy. But again, I think this decision needs to be made with medical agreement.

Weight loss wise, about 1.2 kgs per week on average so far. Very happy with that!

Alot of people on here ( me included) say the MJ is actually great at treating ADHD symptoms. This is something that is currently in research so it may eventually end up being an ADHD medication.

So I think starting with MJ may kill 2 birds with 1 stone. It can take months to titrate up to a full dose by that I mean 15 mg but most will only go as high as they need to maintain suppression so it is not overly clear at what point you can become " stable"

Sorry meant to add this to my last post

Wrong thread, sorry.
What I meant to say on this thread was:
I would start Mounjaro first, as anecdotally quite a few people are saying it helps with their ADHD symptoms.
Also some online prescribers can be a bit cautious about prescribing Mounjaro for patients who are already on ADHD medication, whereas if you do it the other way around you are speaking to the prescribing doctor 1:1 who will take your individual medical history into account.

Thankyou yes I've heard it's helpful for adhd.

I guess I don't have to pay for adhd meds and do have to pay for this (although I expect to be on it long term as I'm v
morbidly obese)

I guess another fear is if MJ does help my adhd when I get to assessment/titration maybe they wont see the adhd..... I really want the diagnosis!

OP posts:
Pashazade · 19/12/2024 08:25

I'm 3 months in and have only gone up to 3.75mg so far. Almost 2 stones lost. Started at 15st12lb. My side effects haven't ramped up particularly. I'd say go for it, from everything I've read you'll soon know if it disagrees with you too much. If the weight loss is working well for you, there is no need to up the dosage you can just stick with what works.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 19/12/2024 09:08

Thankyou all. I'm keen now to start ASAP.

A strange fear is that if it "helps" my adhd too much I may not present "bad" enough for an adhd diagnosis and I can't see exactly the adhd meds in isolation.

But realistically I'm likely to need both and the adhd meds suppott is better so yes. I should start MJ now

Er how to start... What is cheaper long term and arrives quickly? Do I pick up from a pharmacy or is it delivered??

OP posts:
Pashazade · 19/12/2024 16:35

I've gone with Asda, not the cheapest but a name I could trust. I can either collect or get it posted. It is sent in cold packaging so someone has to be available to take delivery, as it is supposed to be stored in the fridge until it is used. After that you can keep it in a cupboard or wherever!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 19/12/2024 17:36

I'm tempted to go with Shemed as its £99 a month (but you're tied to them for a year) but you have to do a blood test and then I won't be able to start til the second week of January and my aim was to stabilise before adhd meds.

The adhd people have said sometime end of February. So obviously that won't be enough time but I'd have to delay the adhd titration. I think it would be okay.

OP posts:
dillonbarks · 19/12/2024 21:22

I think I have been stable since day 1, although I might not be understanding fully what you mean by 'stabilising'

I haven't really had any side effects, staying on 2.5mg for as long as I can.

Go deep into their T&Cs before you comment. I would be worried about them still wanting paid even if you don't get on with the Mounjaro

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 19/12/2024 21:26

I had a good chat with one of their staff and I am feeling okay with it. I have 10stone to lose and they are supportive with helping with side effects.

I don't want surgery so this is it for me. And it's saving so very much money.

I think if the side effects were awful/clinical need they'd stop its more if you can't be bothered to stick with it they want tavoid

I just replied to you on another thread. Side effects won't be considered clinical reason to stop as they are known about - I suspect they will say that. They want to tie people in. Be very cautious. Lots of people stop using MJ because they don't feel good on it generally or struggle with side effects.

SilenceInside · 19/12/2024 21:48

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden will the Shemed clinical trial be ok with starting medication for ADHD alongside taking the Mounjaro? Wouldn't that potentially interfere with the results of their trial? I think I'd want to be clear about that up front and see what they say about it before signing up.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 19/12/2024 21:50

I asked them that on the chat and they were fine with it. They have list of things when you try to sign up that would make you inelligable.

I will ring tomorrow with final questions but really it will save me hundreds.

OP posts:
FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 19/12/2024 21:52

So the bot says you're sent a pack to help with side effects (no idea what that is) and that any significant side effects you get to talk to a clinician for support.

I think that's more than I'd get going it alone tbh

I'm morbidly obese and with 10stone to lose I think I will need to find a wya to make MJ work as I don't want an operation!!

OP posts:
SilenceInside · 19/12/2024 21:55

Go for it if it will make it affordable for you and you're happy with the requirements they have, you've definitely covered all the questions that I would have had about their set up. Hopefully they will accept you on to the programme and you can get started in January.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 19/12/2024 22:11

I'm going to ring tomorrow and ask a bit more about the management of it and as you say about leaving.

I've actually just seen the 2 owners are in their early 20s and not medics which has put me right off.... 🙈
