I was wondering if anyone has any experience of younger people ok MJ. My son is 20 and has gained a lot of weight has raised BMI so I worry about his health. He like me prions to overeating and weight gain. Think he has adhd too which heard MJ could help with. I don’t want to advise him to go on it as his decision. Any thoughts anyone ? Just worried as young and still long term affects might not be known yet. It is affecting his job as it is a physical one too.

He needs to talk to his GP

Has he tried anything else to lose the weight? If he has an active physical job then it wouldn't take much of a reduction in his calorie intake to drop some weight.

If he thinks he has ADHD then he should pursue a diagnosis for that as it may be that there are medications available that may help with managing it.

I'd support him with all of that before suggesting Mounjaro. Just because it's worth trying other cheaper and less medical approaches first as he's young and not been obese for a long time.

What is his BMI?

If you suspect ADHD then it would be a
much better idea to support him in seeking a diagnosis and accessing support and possibly medication to help him to set up good habits for life.

Yes speaking to a clinician would be the next step but was asking anyone had experience of this in younger person and someone with adhd

But you don't know if he has ADHD, OP. He needs to pursue a diagnosis first.

I would consider all other options for support before going down a pharmaceutical route for someone so young.

If he has a very active job you need to also bare in mind MJ can have unpleasant GI side effects which could be difficult to manage in an active job.

He will not be prescribed Mounjaro by the NHS so you will need to buy privately. At his young age I would try spending that money on a good PT, in a small/independent gym, that specialises in young people and nutrition instead.

My ds(20) had a PT from his mid teens when he was going through a tough time, for around 4 years (until he went to uni) and he was both an amazing role model and a positive influence on how to take care of yourself. What he learnt, the eating and exercise habits have stuck with him even though he hasn't been to a PT for nearly 3 years now.

Thanks to everyone for taking time to comment. Agree PT /GYM would be a better option at his age and it is about getting into better habits etc. Questionnaires have been completed through MH service re ADHD so suppose wait and see what they say. Looking at all the info online one ADHD trait can be overeating.
Agree, for him MJ should be further down the line, appreciate this forum as your responses have really helped. Think got carried away with MJ being the answer as it has helped with the food noise so much and control.
