Has anyone been turned down for weight loss injections?

And if so would you mind telling me why?

I have bipolar and I’m on several medications to treat it. I really don’t want to go through the assessment process if I’m likely to get turned down.

My friend was. He's type 2 diabetic, and was going to buy them privately. But was refused as he wasn't overweight enough. He is very overweight, but carries it well as he's very tall.

I don’t think I’m in danger of that happening as I definitely don’t carry it well :)

But it’s not about how you look, a bmi of 27 and you’d get it, as it’s 27 with health conditions. Or 30 without. And why wouldn’t his doctor prescribe?

No problem. I discussed the weight gain with them, it is olanzapine, and we tried metformin but that didn't really help much. they said they would like to prescribe injections but at present they can't but I have monitoring of bloods for the olanzapine and already seeing some positive changes which is good.

Been on mounjaro since September. Any other questions please just ask.

I would just have a go at applying to one of the pharmacies here and listing your meds - they can tell you if approved etc- I have ordered from Voy and Simple online pharmacy.

Also Med Express (discounts mean I swap around)

No idea. When he last went to the GP age wasn't bothered about his weight. He is bothered about it, he almost lost his foot from diabetes a few years ago, after his then GP didn't diagnose him as diabetic, despite consistently high sugars. His orthopaedic surgeon did instead.

Well out of sheer curiosity, I filled out the online consultation for Lloyd’s Pharmacy. I have a BMI of just over 30, and type 2 diabetes. So I should be eligible. AIUI, the criteria are either BMI of 30 or over, or 27 or over plus a health condition in which weight is a factor.

They said they couldn’t prescribe for me because I have type 2 diabetes.

So this drug, which was originally developed to treat type 2 diabetes, can’t be prescribed to someone with type 2 diabetes. Bizarre.

Maybe they can only do ig for weight loss then. And can’t prescribe for diabetes. That has to be the gp.

I think you can get it on the NHS for diabetes

Maybe so. I might have a conversation about it with the practice nurse when I go for my diabetes review in January.

I was previously on a different GLP-1 drug for diabetes, until supply issues made it unavailable. Never mind - sorting it out with low carb real food and intermittent fasting now.

It all varies from authority to authority. My BMI was 35 and I have long term hypertension and they said I wasn't eligible. They did ask if I wanted referred for gastric surgery . Makes no sense.
