NHS Roll-out news
Onceachunkymonkey · 05/12/2024 11:16

I think it’s fantastic news and I’m really hoping my gp will start to prescribe for me when she can, and others who need it long term,

I think thr 12 years is just a number based on how little resource time gp’s have, they can’t deal with thousands of people trying to book in to get them. So I suspect it will be for people they are already seeing for other health issues,

it’s great news though. I wonder how all the I’m so anti weight loss bingo players feel.

Arraminta · 05/12/2024 11:35

Oh no! What will all the Faux Concerners do now?

Yes I think it is prioritised so e.g. 3 health conditions and BMI 40+ first, then goes down in priority so the same but with 2 health problems, then finally to 35+ but I think, looking at the Nice guidance anyone under 35 BMI would not be eligible due to the high cost of e.g. everyone over 30 BMI. That is how it looks so far.

I understand wegovy is also prescribed through tier 3 services at present but seems rationed the mounjaro roll out on the other hard seems to be mainly through GPs with monitoring etc.

In today’s Times.

“Nice, the health watchdog, has ruled that 3.4 million adults are eligible for Mounjaro, the most effective so far in a revolutionary new class of anti-obesity injections. But a lack of NHS capacity means only 220,000 of these patients, fewer than one in ten, will be given the drug over the next three years, after spending years on waiting lists.

The arrival of weight-loss jabs has created a two-tier system for slimming down. Wealthy patients happy to pay £150 a month can easily get their hands on the miracle drugs, but anyone hoping to get them on the NHS may have to wait for years.

The drugs could ultimately “benefit a larger population”, because one in four adults in the UK — nearly 15 million people — are considered obese, meaning they have a BMI of more than 30.The rollout of Mounjaro will begin next year to patients who are already receiving care in specialist NHS weight-loss services”

The roll out is going to be incredibly slow and restricted due to capacity issues.

@Arraminta They will
blame WLI users for taking up NHS resources (we can add that to the bingo card too) .. when we could just eat less and move more!

Pumpkinforever · 05/12/2024 11:49

I have my bingo pen at the ready 😂 @HansHolbein

HansHolbein · 05/12/2024 11:50

I’m sure it won’t be long before we cross them off the list on this thread too 😂

KrankyKumquat · 05/12/2024 17:22

The next big argument will be that private patients are taking WLI away from the more deserving NHS patients. As soon as the NHS fails to buy enough MJ to meet demand, and there are shortages for these people, just like there were for Wegovy, we'll be blamed.

Edited

It seems there is enough to go round though
