Hi, I qualify (I think) for Ozempic or similar on the NHS. I've got a GP appointment shortly to discuss. However I have some questions:

I haven't got a sweet tooth at all. However, I have no "stop" button when it comes to crisps, cheese, nuts etc. I've read some accounts that say it stops you overeating sweet stuff but does nothing to stop you wanting savoury snacks. Is this really the case?

I do drink a lot of wine - I've got into bad habits in the evenings after work of opening a bottle. DH has one or maybe two glasses and I polish off the rest myself. Will injections stop this? I don't drink every day but I'd really like to reduce my alcohol intake.

Thanks for any advice and any other tips!

My DH started on ozempic 3 weeks ago and has stopped both crisps and wine. He’ll start a bag and then stop very quickly and same with a glass of wine. We both used to eat enormous bags of the things nightly and he’d drink a lot of wine. So it’s working for him!

I'd be surprised if the GP would prescribe weight loss injections (Wegovy or Mounjaro) after one appointment. My understanding is that they are a Tier 3 treatment, if available at all, so you would be expected to work through the Tier 1 and 2 levels of "treatment" without success before being considered for Tier 3 interventions. Which are usually bariatric surgery not injections. So a process that may take many months or years, if available at all.

Unless you are diabetic, and it's part of your diabetes treatment?

@MaggieBsBoat that's exactly what I want to hear! Thank you

Hi, I have T2 diabetes and have been through a regime of treatment which isn't working. I have had one GP consultation already, where he indicated that this would be an appropriate next step, but was a locum and wants me to see my actual GP. So I'm fairly sure I will qualify. If not then I am thinking of trying privately but my BMI isn't high enough for their criteria from.what I can see. Plus I'm not sure I can afford it.

Ah ok, so it's for diabetes.

I haven't taken Ozempic/Wegovy, but I find for me personally on Mounjaro that all snacking and overeating has stopped, pretty much from day one. But plenty of people don't get that effect on the first dose level and may need to move up to higher doses for it to be effective, or it just may not work at all for them. It really depends on your individual response which isn't possible to predict in advance.

Hi everyone, just to update I had an appointment with my diabetes nurse this week and she has prescribed Monjouro. I pick up my first prescription tomorrow. I hadn't realised it was also available as a daily tablet but opted for the pen as I'm not sure I could adhere to the tablet regime.

How quickly did the loss of appetite happen for people? If I do my first injection this weekend, will it start to have an effect by Christmas day?

Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) isn't available as a tablet, it was likely Rybelsus that was mentioned, which is a daily tablet version of semaglutide, the GLP-1 that is in the Wegovy/Ozempic injections.

Individual responses vary greatly to the first injection of Mounjaro. I had suppression almost immediately, but some people don't get much of an impact for several weeks until they are on the higher doses. A small percentage of people don't ever get an effective impact from it regardless of the dose they move onto.

It takes somewhere around 8 to 72 hours for the medication to be at its peak in your system after an injection, and then it starts to fall back down, with about half of it out of your system after 5 days.

It tends to stop most craving and thirst! I quite often forget to drink which is not good. You may feel some suppression within a day or two. What is it they’ve prescribed? Is it mounjaro or ozempic? As above, you can’t get mounjaro in tablet form

ILoveAnnaQuay · 18/12/2024 10:28

It's Mounjaro. The nurse spoke about a tablet that had the same effect so I assumed it was Mounjaro. I didn't ask though, as once I heard about the regimen I realised I wouldn't be able to stick to it.

I'm hoping not to overeat over Christmas but I might have to rely on will power!

Good luck with it tomorrow @ILoveAnnaQuay hopefully you will be one of the majority who gets a reasonable effect from the 2.5mg dose and you experience some suppression and feeling fuller quicker over the Christmas period.
