Weight loss meds of the past

Did anyone ever try the various weight loss drugs from previous decades?
I took big brown fibre tablets ( no idea of the name) and tenuate dospan back in the eighties. The tenuate had some effect at first but stopped taking it as felt like I was on speed or something.
In the early 2000s I tried orlistat (no thank you to liquid orange farts) and later tried acomplia which was fantastic for me (lost five stone and no side effects) until it was withdrawn because a patient in the US killed themselves and it was thought to cause depression.
Then tried ozempic 2022 which started to work but stopped taking it when stock in UK ran out or tripled in price.
Now poised to try mounjaro and hoping this will be the holy grail at last!

I was prescribed Reductil back in 2006 by my GP and funnily enough I was actually lighter then than I am now at the time. I have a BMI over 40 yet because I don't have any other health conditions I won't be referred for NHS prescription.
States on my NHS medication record in bold "NOT TO BE PRESCRIBED BY SURGERY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES - PATIENT OBTAINING WEIGHT LOSS MEDICATION ON PRIVATE PRESCRIPTION"
Bit harsh 🫣

As a teenager I was conned by Weight Loss Tea those Ayds chewy cubes, and PLJ to reduce sweet tooth.
I knew all along none of them would work but tried them “just in case”. I wasn’t even overweight at the time.
I am much older, wiser and fatter now.

My mum used to have the Ayds squares in her bedside cabinet and I used to “steal” them as I thought they were fudge. I was a fat child, they obviously didn’t work 😂

I am in my mid 50s and this is my first attempt at weightloss medications. All the others didn't sound particularly believable, successful or pleasant.

I have just remembered I tried reductil too. After acomplia was withdrawn. Didn’t work for me.
The only thing that kept me thin was what I can now see was a borderline eating disorder. I would eat one bowl of bran flakes and two slices of bread per day through the week and allowed myself a meal at the weekends.
Once I first moved in with a bloke and started cooking for him I began eating normally and from then on got fatter and fatter with a couple of periods of major weight loss but the overall trend getting bigger.

I remember taking phentermine. Hideous drug
I was constantly sweating, had heart palpitations and was unable to sleep. It works on the central nervous system and is basically speed.

I think it is now banned in the UK

6 different medications all for weight loss, spanning decades is a bit sad. Hopefully this is the one that works for you - lucky number 7
