Mounjaro & sugar cravings?

I'm starting Mounjaro soon and I'm curious about how it has affected other peoples sugar cravings? Sugar cravings are probably my biggest problem, and I would love for them to lessen 🤞

I went on a low carb diet whilst on MJ so my sugar craving disappeared, which may have been the low carb diet but might have been MJ!

Madickenxx · 03/12/2024 08:52

I've not had any sugar cravings or any cravings of any type. I have still had and enjoyed the odd piece of chocolate but I feel in control of my choices now.

Thanks @ThirdStorm - I guess it's hard to know which is doing the heavy lifting there, but it doesn't really matter if it's working!

Thanks @Madickenxx and did you have significant sugar cravings before starting Mounjaro?

Mounjaro works on your GLP-1 and GIP hormones, these hormones help regulate blood sugar and appetite, which can then indirectly reduce cravings.

But as usual with MJ responses are individual and your response could be different from mine.

For me I have had an reduction in sugar cravings in the first week which has continued - both sugar and sweetener (I no longer want Pepsi Max for example). I still occasionally have/enjoy a small piece of cake when out at a cafe (not a whole one or I feel crap afterwards) but I never reach for sugary treats at home anymore. I always thought I turned to sugar for comfort, but perhaps not.

If your sugar cravings are psychological the feeling of fullness and physiological changes to blood sugars may help with the emotional side, but I expect will power will need to be used too to break the habit or using sugar for comfort.

You won't know how it will work for you until you start.

Its probably a bit of both!

Thanks @WeAllHaveWings that's really interesting. And encouraging to hear.

I'm ridiculously excited to start. Even just a slight lessening of my sugar cravings would be wonderful.

Interesting question. Sugar is very much my downfall. If I have a small bit I want more sugar and more food in general.
Hoping mounjaro will help,

MounjaroHereICome · 03/12/2024 10:21

Mounjaro has definitely reduced my sugar cravings and my ability to have a lot in one go.

I still have 2 unopened packs of chocolate buttons, and 1 opened but sealed pack that I'll likely throw away as it's been almost 2 weeks since I opened it. I don't plan on buying more since it's getting longer inbetween eating them. Before MJ, those 3 packs would have gone within 3 days to 5days but I'm still working my way through the one. I don't remember them until I feel some type of low blood sugar or particular need for something sweet after days of having none.

I don't think I've had cake since i started 10 weeks ago. If I do have chocolates now, I can have it like a normal person and just take a few and put the pack back, as opposed to scoffing down the lot in one sitting because I can't stop. I now feel satisfied after a few bites, even put off by it.

GrapesGrape · 03/12/2024 10:32

Me too @Mittens67 !

Wow @MounjaroHereICome that's incredible. I will be ecstatic if this happens with me.

Definitely - but in a good way - it's not that I don't desire it at all, it's just that I can have a couple of biscuits rather than 5.

If I do manage to cram too much in (generally if I have a sweet drink, my feedback for food is much better than drink) I feel a bit nauseated, so it's training me not to do that again as well as making it less likely I'll do it in the first place.

Ggmores · 03/12/2024 10:45

I never used to eat cakes, biscuits, chocolate before (savoury has always been my downfall), but Mounjaro has increased mine drastically. I eat chocolate everyday now where I didn’t before. I wonder if I had low blood sugar before and this has had an effect.

GrapesGrape · 03/12/2024 09:07

Yes I did - I was eating a low carb diet before Mounjaro (started Jan this year) and was moderately successful in avoiding sugar but every time I had a little, I went back to square one with the sugar and then struggled to get back to low carb. Prior to this year I consumed a ridiculous amount of chocolate (along with crisps) and have done for 30+ years. The last time I had chocolate was a couple of weeks back when I had a couple of mouthfuls of a brownie while eating out. It's not occurred for me to have any since then. I have a cupboard full of chocolates and they used to sing to me all evening to try and get me to have some but now the noise is gone and I don't even think to open the cupboard. It's nothing short of a miracle.

I hope it happens to you too. It's so freeing! X

Orangesandlemons77 · 03/12/2024 12:21

I had a very sweet tooth and it has completely gone. I sometimes have e.g. a little bit of frozen raspberry yoghurt but more for the sharp taste and it seems sweeter. Things like cakes / chocolate seem a bit rich / cloying now.

GrapesGrape · 03/12/2024 14:24

That's so strange @Ggmores !

Mounjaro is the only 'diet' (stupid word) that I've ever been on where I eat chocolate every day

Yesterday I ate 2 liquer chocolates and was DONE

It's incredible to me to have sugar as such a small part of my diet, most of my diet is chicken breasts and veg

Feels like I eat healthily for the first time ever, instead of having to fight sugar cravings

Doggymummar · 03/12/2024 17:51

I find it hard to eat anything I could go a couple of days without eating at all to be honest, I don't but I could.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 03/12/2024 17:58

I’ve found that some things taste overly sweet and sickly, weirdly I had a finger of a twirl bar and it was horrible, but a treat size bag of Cadburys buttons was lovely, both Cadburys products but tasted so different! I can no longer drink Diet Coke or Pepsi because of the sweetness. I love diet cream soda but have to dilute it and have 50% sparkling water to water the sweetness down.
We have an opened box of mince pies in the cupboard and I’m not even tempted, pre MJ they could have been calling out to me constantly

InfoSecInTheCity · 03/12/2024 18:01

My sugar craving has disappeared but I'm another one who is low carb and high protein on MJ. One of the biggest benefits of MJ is that it makes it easier to stick to a diet plan because you aren't starving hungry all the time. I've ways found the first 10 days of low carb hard but then once you're in the swing of it the sugar need disappears. MJ made it much easier than battling through that 10 days.

Thanks @ann1984 I've already ordered so can't use your code this time. How long does it last though? As in, could I use it for my next month's purchase? Can they only be used once by one person? Sorry, I really am a newbie!

OP posts:
ann1984 · 03/12/2024 18:47

First order only but Can be used repeatedly by more than one person.

If you've already used medexpress you can apparently get them to price match other companies too.

GrapesGrape · 03/12/2024 18:56

Ah I didn't know that about MedExpress - that's who I ordered from. Good to know, thanks @ann1984
