If you're on Mounjaro via NHS what monitoring do you have?

Hi, I plan to start Mounjaro through one of the private providers. I know that the monitoring is pretty minimal. I wondered about people taking Mounjaro on the NHS – do you get much monitoring? If so, what does that consist of – regular blood tests?

Thought I'd bump this this morning as I posted at a funny time last night!

Generally, people AREN’T getting MJ through the nhs unless they are diabetic so will be monitored for that.

My experience of private prescribers that monitoring is erratic. Most want weight updates every order and to be notified of any changes in health or medications.

Dietingfool · 02/12/2024 09:11

Mj is only approved currently by the nhs for diabetes, so it will be that standard.

it is now recommended under the nice guidelines, so will be available for those with a bmi over 40 and health conditions, via tier three weight loss management clinics

on saying that, my gp is monitoring me, as I take it for weight loss only via private prescrtion, like everyone else, and she does it to ensure she managed my blood pressure meds correctly as I lose weight,

Zero. Nothing. Nada. On it for diabetes/ weight loss and apart from putting me up to 5mg and checking I wasn't suffering side effects to begin with they've left me to it, I don't care cos they are pretty useless.

Thanks @IReallyNeedThisToWork and @Dietingfool sorry I should have said – I realise NHS don't prescribe it for weight loss, only for diabetes etc. but I wondered what that monitoring was like, but I guess it's a slightly confusing picture because that would essentially be monitoring the diabetes.

Thanks @IDontHateRainbows that's interesting. Doesn't sound very helpful for you though.

Oh I prefer as little interference as possible

MrsOldknow · 02/12/2024 15:55

@IDontHateRainbows cool, that's good then! 😄

My husband is experiencing exactly the same @IDontHateRainbows.

I'm getting mine privately but my GPs knows about it and I contacted them worried about the possibility of gallstones / pancreatitis. they went over the symptoms and said to get in touch if I had any, they would do some blood tests I think.

So not really anything ongoing but feel if I did have problems they would be on board.

Very little really - a phone call from prescribing pharmacist at GP surgery every other month at the moment as I am still titrating up. I also have 6 monthly appointments with endocrinologist with many blood tests, but he doesn't manage my mounjaro now, that is entirely done by GP. I don't have blood tests outside of the yearly check up ones I have had for years.

Is that for diabetes please?

No, I have it prescribed off label for a endocrine disorder.

I take MJ for Diabetes, started in Aug. I have regular contact with the Community Diabetes Team, and can call them for additional help if I need to. I'm just about to start my 7.5 pen.. stayed on 5 for a couple of pens, but find the suppression is now wearing off a bit. I've lost 2 stone... my start weight was 13.5 stones. I have an HBA1C blood test booked for next month
