I am on 5MG have finished my pen and have requested to pause now till Jan. No weight lost… I lost 1.5KG somewhere around the third week but put it back on.

I am going to focus on exercising to try and maintain weight over Christmas but not sure if I will restart.

thinking I might be a non responder. Only effects are feeling a bit fuller after eating and less sweet cravings.

still very much craving wine🙁

It took a long time for results to show for me. But now, 7 months later, I can see a big difference. Probably only 1 1/2 to 2 stone lost when I read about others losing 5 stone in less time.
But it's working and I intend to stay on it until I feel happy about my body.
Also has added benefits of drastically reducing chronic pain.

SilenceInside · 01/12/2024 22:14

Some people don't get consistent weight loss until at the higher doses eg 10mg or 15mg, so I wouldn't necessarily give up after 2 months. Especially as you've had some impact to show there is an effect, as in the feeling fuller and fewer sugar cravings. Just really wondering why you'd stop for a month and then start back at the beginning again? Rather than continue and try moving up to 7.5mg and then 10mg if it still wasn't producing regular consistent weight loss.

MounjaroUser · 01/12/2024 22:24

What are you eating and drinking now compared to the months beforehand?

I was shocked that with the little I was eating, I wasn't losing more quickly, but now it's been five months and I've lost over three stone, so it obviously was coming off in smaller increments.

NewDaye · 02/12/2024 07:10

You may need to increase your dose. You have only tried using the lowest available strengths. 2.5mg is a non-therapeutic dose to get you used to side effects, ie a loading dose. 5mg step up is considered a maintenance dose eg it can be used in patients that are wanting no further loss but to maintain current weight after reaching a healthy BMI.

Some patients might lose weight on lower strengths of Mounjaro, but that’s a bonus. It’s mainly the higher strength doses which are tested in clinical trials and those results advertised.

To be honest I’m not sure why you think a break until January is appropriate. I understand why you would want to stop completely - but it seems to be a silly idea to come off over Christmas just to resume in the new year under your circumstances. I think you are at risk of gaining more weight especially if you’re wanting to eat more food over Christmas.

I think you should talk to your pharmacy and make a decision with their advice.

NewDaye · 02/12/2024 07:29

Also I don’t think it is accurate to state that you are not responding to the medication. You have fullness and appetite suppression whilst being on the lowest possible strengths. Your experience is in line with the normal/expected range of responses.

I don’t believe there is any advertised causation between Mounjaro and alcohol so craving wine is irrelevant. Maybe you need to temper your expectations there. In fact, if you’re regularly drinking your calories in the form of alcohol, this could be why you are not losing weight?

olympicsrock · 02/12/2024 07:36

It sounds like you need to reduce how much you drink ? Have you reduced your portion sizes to avoid the feeling of being too full ?

Okayornot · 02/12/2024 07:46

What changes have you made since being on MJ? It's a tool to make changing your habits easier - such as reducing sugar cravings so you can more easily resist - but you can't otherwise continue to eat and drink as normal and expect to lose much weight.
Some of it is not easy. I still crave wine but don't drink it most of the time, and eating a lot of protein (and virtually no complex carbs) is a huge effort for me but both net good results.

Exercising over christmas is unlikely to help you with your weight (although of course it has other health benefits). 90% of weight loss and gain is diet.

Losingthetimber · 02/12/2024 07:50

Exercise whilst having lots of health benefits is unlikely to support weight maintenance if you aren’t in control of what you eat and drink.

as the saying goes , you can’t outrun your fork.

id also have went up to a higher dose, however, as a pp said, mj is just a tool to help you diet and make healthy choices, it doesn’t do the heavy lifting for you. If you chose to keep eating and drinking like before, you won’t lose weight.

it clearly is having an effect, you are feeling fuller etc,

maybe take some time to think are you in the right head space for this, and pause until you feel ready, if you’ve paused in part as you wish to over eat during the holiday period, then you are not in the right headspace, and can reconsider next year.

good luck

If you are in deficit you should lose weight unless you have a medical issue (thyroid etc). The WLI are a tool to help, they don't do it for you. What adjustments have you made to your eating?

LoveSandbanks · 02/12/2024 08:07

It’s not magic, it’s a tool to help you eat a calorie controlled diet.

RunSlowTalkFast · 02/12/2024 14:17

I'm not surprised the OP hasn't come back to this thread, some of the responses are really patronising.

People lose a lot of weight on Mounjaro because it suppresses your appetite. If that's not happening it will be just as hard as before... you know, when we all managed to get ourselves into obesity!

2.5mg didn't do anything for me but it's kicked in at 5mg. Still not what some people describe where they can barely manage 1000 calories a day buy definitely easier to eat less.

If 5mg didn't work for me I'd have probably tried 7.5mg and then given up. Up to you what you do OP x

Thank you for your reply.

Yes @LoveSandbanks I am aware it is not “magic” I have tried calorie counting through this period but isn’t the point of taking it that it is supposed to help along the way!

I have cut out chocolate biscuits etc as part of the lifestyle change but not had success as mentioned above.

No advice OP, but agree that unfortunately some of the responses were rude/patronising. Hope you find a way that works for you.

ValleyKings · 02/12/2024 16:14

Have you cut calories?
