Mounjaro - suddenly a bit scared to start!

Hello,

I'm just after a bit of moral support really.

I've been doing loads of reading around it (usage, side effects, coming off it etc), and decided to go ahead.

I ordered it last week from Asda pharmacy and it arrived, I was planning to do first injection on Sunday evening.

I sat down to read all the leaflets in the box, and suddenly got a bit scared/nervous and thought .. 'what am I getting myself into?!'. Also doesn't help that I am scared of needles.

Anyone else had similar thoughts and how did you (re)rationalise it to yourself???

Depending on your BMI and any other medications, you should be OK. I am a Pharmacist, I have seen people get very very unwell on this, but that is when they lied about their weight etc in order to get the drug!

Hi, I have been taking it for 3 months and lost more than 2.5 stone. My 22 year old daughter started 3 weeks ago and has lost 9lb. I have had minimal issues, once had cramps and diarrhoea, with burping. Daughter is needle phobic but admits it doesn’t hurt. Have a look at the needle it is about 4mm that’s all. Look on here at MJ August starters there are lovely ppl on there and very supportive and knowledgeable.

SilenceInside · 19/11/2024 14:04

I think it's quite common to feel nervous, but it is honestly fine. You won't feel the injection - I used to be very needle phobic prior to my pregnancies, but this is a piece of cake once you understand how the pen works.

I would just remind yourself of the reasons you decided to sign up and purchase it, and presumably if those haven't changed, then crack on. If it's awful and you have terrible side effects then you can just stop taking it and it will be out of your system by the following week.

morbidcuriosity · 19/11/2024 14:12

Go for it. After a few weeks you will be annoyed you didn't start sooner..
The injection is very easy and painless, just read instructions, I followed the paper instructions for about my 1st 6 jabs..

My only side effects have been constipation but that is easily fixed, plenty of water and twice had to take something, a laxative drink and once a dulcolax.
Worst case , you hate it, then you just don't take anymore.. but I doubt that will happen..

Completely normal to be scared. I'm sure we were all like that once faced with actually doing the first jab.

But it's honestly been the best thing I've ever done for myself.

You'll feel much better once you've done the first one.

Good luck with it.

alltablenochairs · 19/11/2024 18:36

I'm massively needle phobic- to the extent that I will do just about anything to avoid needles.

MJ needles don't look anything like a traditional syringe and needle. Depending on your supplier and what they've given you there is every chance they will only be 4-6mm long anyway. I'm fine about these and it doesnt activate my needle phobia. If you want me to expand further or take a pic for you I can.

LakeUtah · 19/11/2024 19:00

You can do it!

Have you injected yet?

Cantbesure · 19/11/2024 20:27

I was exactly the same. I got mine on the Thursday and didn't do it until last night. My overthinking brain was in overdrive. First full day today and I've felt fine. Bizarrely I'm not hungry. I'm definitely getting suppression.

Caffeinequeen91 · 19/11/2024 21:35

I’m waiting for mine to arrive but I’m also nervous. Worried about the needle and worried about side effects. But keen to get started.

Pashazade · 19/11/2024 22:23

The needles are tiny and you barely feel them. Least worrisome part once it's done. I've had a bit of nausea and some constipation as side effects otherwise it's been fine.

Icanthinkformyselfthanks · 19/11/2024 22:36

A lot of people are nervous, I WAS!
I took my second jab yesterday, it doesn’t hurt and I’ve only had tiredness as a side effect and that doesn’t last. Good luck!

newschoolpals · 20/11/2024 10:30

Thanks everyone for the reassurance.

When I was reading the leaflets, where they categorise the side effects as 'common', 'uncommon' etc, it felt like there was an alarmingly high chance of side effects compared to most other medication leaflets you read. And I have two young children and thought to myself, what am I doing, risking the potential of getting severely ill just for the 'easy ride' when I could just put in the hard work and calorie count and lose weight that way without risking anything.
(((Side note - I'm not generally a dramatic person but my mum died when I was 3 so the worry of leaving my young kids is always at the back edges of my mind.)))

Thanks for pointing out that the needles are tiny, I do have them but didn't actually look at them yet. I have had to take courses of injections in the past after surgery and births and I've had to get other people to do them for me :-D

I am planning to start this weekend. It's DDs birthday today so we have a couple of days of things planned and then after that I will. I just need to decide a day and stick to it - Friday, Sat or Sun. And you're right - if I hate it early on I can just stop taking it.

Thanks again!

Hi I just took my first dose this afternoon. The packaging makes it look quite scary. Didnt feel the needle. Just take your time. I must have rewatched the video so many times.

LawMR · 23/03/2025 16:46

I have entered in all my details correctly and put down that I am taking sertraline! Still worried that I shouldn’t use it if taking sertraline!
