Hi all, so I started my first jab last Tuesday, a week tomorrow. I was so nervous, but I have been extremely fortunate with no side effects, and it's doing what it needs to do. I actually felt pretty great all week until last night! I woke up at 1am. heart racing, and cold sweat felt faint. It lasted on and off about 20 minutes, I ate a small piece of chocolate, was fine, and went to sleep and been fine all day.
It's not gonna like freaked me out. I have messaged the provider for advice. They are yet to get back to me.
I'm due next jab in the morning and now scared. Has this happened to anyone else?

It can be caused by low blood sugar, which might be a possibility. Hopefully your provider will give you some more information and advice about this.

Have you been managing to eat a reasonable number of calories each day?

IMustBeInvisible · 18/11/2024 18:38

I'd also say low blood sugar especially as you were fine after eating the chocolate. MJ does lower/stabilise blood sugar.

Just make sure you eat properly and once it happens again and you know you've eaten, then do as you did and you should be fine. I'd say you're fine to take your next dose but for your peace of mind, you can wait for the prescriber to get back to you.

I've been doing about 900-1000 calories but definitely cut out the sugar. Today I had half a banana after lunch and other half after dinner. Going to have a options hot choc before bed tonight too.
It has definitely kicked off some anxiety tho feel all panicky about it.

Caffeine withdrawal? Have you reduced your caffeine?

IMustBeInvisible · 18/11/2024 18:54

You should be fine. Try to incorporate a little bit of sugar in your diet especially if you're prone to hypoglycemia. Cutting out sugar and being on MJ may affect some people's blood glucose levels (if it's generally on the lower end) and get it too low. It's all about a balanced diet.

Another thought is that bananas can cause a spike in blood sugar for some people, which could also be what happened.

Lifeisblaaaaaaaaa · 18/11/2024 19:02

I haven't had caffeine in years.

Also only had the banana today to help sugar, I didn't have it the day before. But thank you for replying and helping.

I think I will cry if I have to stop, honestly this last week it's been amazing I finally stopped obsessing over my weight as I thought that I had it all under control now.
Stupid anxiety.

Also I was thinking if it's jab day tomorrow monjarno would of worn off wouldn't it? So it can't be that

I understand the anxiety but I really think you'll be fine. No need to worry.

SilenceInside · 18/11/2024 19:05

@Lifeisblaaaaaaaaa the Mounjaro doesn't wear off in a week, it takes longer than that, so the amount in your system actually builds up each time you inject. You're not back to zero each time.

I don't think that one instance of waking up with a racing heart is a reason to stop taking Mounjaro. I'm not a HCP but on it's own it isn't dangerous or necessarily significant. It can be caused by many things like anxiety, caffeine, low sugar, night terrors and so on.

Lifeisblaaaaaaaaa · 18/11/2024 19:11

It felt very much like an anxiety attack. Possibly low sugar.

I just need to stop worrying about it and get on with it.
I have been very lucky so far with side effects.

Thank you so much. I have no one else to talk to about this

You need to be eating more calories than that. This is your chance to learn how to eat normally, how to listen to your body rather than go down the disordered path of hyper control and starvation calorie levels.

Put your stats into here https://tdeecalculator.net/ and then take 500 calories off the total. Aim to eat that much each day and then you will lose weight in a controlled manner. Work with your body, not against it.

Thank you.

I have tried thoes calories many times, it just doesn't seam to work for me. I never loose anything unless I'm on 1200 or below unfortunately.
I am a diet pro .. just can't stick to anything more than a couple of months

Have you had your blood sugar checked?

crumbsonmyface · 18/11/2024 21:33

@Lifeisblaaaaaaaaa this happened to me at the start and it is scary! I've found it's down to low blood sugar. Here's what's helped me:

  • electrolyte daily
  • glucose tablet by the bed in case I wake up feeling like this - it's fast acting!
  • magnesium (helped with the heart racing and palpitation feeling)
  • protein meal before bed - helps to stop a crash in the night. If I eat a carb heavy meal like pasta I wake up shaking in the night as it spikes my blood sugar.

Hope this helps x

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/11/2024 22:02

You need to eat more 800/900/1000 isn't enough

Then you said you need 1200 or don't lose

So you have a spare 200/300

Use them

What's your weight /heigh /bmi

If under 5ft I know some say they need to be under 1000

But most eating 1200 + and losing

ThatCoralShark · 18/11/2024 22:03

Dextro glucose energy sweets, you can buy on Amazon, or in most supermarkets, keep them handy and just suck one if you feel ropey.

Lifeisblaaaaaaaaa · 19/11/2024 09:12

I am 5ft 2 13st

Thank you all so much, honestly I am so grateful.

I take electrolytes daily, I am going to get the glucose tablets today.

I don't know my sugar levels, is this something I should be doing?

2nd jab is done tho. Onwards I go

FlappingMadly · 19/11/2024 09:53

Yes @Lifeisblaaaaaaaaa. it is a very good idea to have them checked. Glucose sweets are okay but you must know if you have BS problems or you could be very ill. You might just be eating way too few calories. What is your TDEE? https://tdeecalculator.net
