Opting out of 'lifestyle advice'?

I've been on Mounjaro for just under a month and while I'm happy with the results so far, I'm finding the 'lifestyle advice' and 'check-ins' a bit patronising and not that helpful. (I'm with Voy.) Just wondering if anyone else agrees, and if so, have you opted out? What was the reaction if so?

I get that this could be a helpful supplementary service for some, perhaps for many, and I get the added-value angle. I just don't personally want it. I didn't put on weight because I didn't know how not to, or what I should/shouldn't be eating, drinking etc, I put it on through various bad habits which I'm in the process of resetting and I'd rather just work through this process myself so am giving serious thought to politely telling them this.

I feel like a bit of a cow feeling this way, especially as the 'personal coach' I've seen assigned seems lovely. But I think it's partly the 'Go you! Keep up the good work! Set a goal! You can do it!' tone of the advice that's coming off as patronising, and there's no polite way to say that. 😄The canned responses from bots are grating on me too, especially as I haven't submitted any queries out of hours so I'm not even sure why they're happening.

Anyone else feeling the same way about this aspect of the 'journey', as the person leading my introductory call called it about eight million times? 😄

@ruethewhirl I think lots of people feel the same way which is why they use other providers that don't offer coaching and support in the way that Voy do. From my supplier I get a few emails about nutrition and progress, and they'll answer any queries via messages and that's it. Perfect for me.

KrankyKumquat · 18/11/2024 15:25

Yep, I wouldn't hand over my cash for bumpf like that. I think on here a majority aren't with Voy so aren't subjected to 'coaching'. If it's not for you either, just change provider and save some money.

ruethewhirl · 18/11/2024 15:28

Ah, that's useful to know. I wasn't sure whether other providers were doing this as well. My next pen is already on its way, but might look at switching once I've finished that one.

That wouldn't go down well with me either. I didn't choose a prescriber with coaching offered - I know the standard diet advice, (you show me a fat person who doesn't)!

You can probably swap to a cheaper provider without the coaching. Stick around on here and feel free to ask questions, I've found it really helpful seeing other people's experiences.

Save yourself some money!
I use Zava and there’s none of that, although I can message a doctor if I need to.
I’ve been paying £122 per pen (not got beyond 5mg in 18 wks). PM if you’d like a code.

Wonkypictureframe · 18/11/2024 15:35

I purposely avoided the providers offering coaching type stuff as I have done Noom in the past, and a local person too, and found both of them patronising and far too reliant on c&p/bot exchanges. I don’t need to be told to eat less sugar/start off with a walk/have a bath rather than eat snacks!

I've just realised that in the 6 months I've been on here, I don't recall anyone ever saying 'my coach told me this' and we've all gone 'wow, I didn't know that' 😅

Somehow that doesn't surprise me! 😄It's all very standard stuff. Tbf they've been great in general, and I can definitely see it helping those who benefit from external accountability and a 'handhold' so to speak, that's just not my preferred way of going about things.

I'm with Asda and I get an email every month or so reminding me I can ask any questions I want, and giving me (the same, non-personalised) tips about tracking weight loss and lifestyle changes. I don't get anything personal, which suits me.

unsync · 18/11/2024 16:54

I'm with Asda. They have downloadable resources. They send a couple of emails to remind me that if I need support I can contact them, otherwise I can just get on with it.

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 18/11/2024 19:44

This is why I didn’t use Voy! No way was I going to pay a premium for my very own patronising cheerleader 🤣.

cakewench · 19/11/2024 18:26

I was with Voy for 5 minutes or so, and they definitely feel as if they're trying to justify their high price by spamming you with generic advice and questions.

You can try to opt out.

Honestly, other pharmacies are so much cheaper and bother you a lot less. There are still some pep talks via email, but you can choose to engage, or not.

Yeah, at this point I'm wishing I'd thought about this properly before payment was taken for my next pen 😄 but I think once I've finished that one I will probably switch. I got a discount for my first month, but the usual price does seem higher than other suppliers. Thanks all for the advice!
