Mounjaro not working

Hi all. I’m wondering if anyone can give any advice or has a similar experience that they maybe able to share.
I was on ozempic a year or so ago and it didn’t work for me, meaning I had no side effects or appetite suppression. I got some advice to wait a while and try a different GLP1 medicine and have started using Mounjaro. The 3 weeks I had no suppression, side effects or weight loss. I’m fully aware that it’s a loading dose but given my past with another GLP1 medication I was worried that this may be a same experience as ozemic. My prescriber had a consultation with me discussed options and advised to start 5mgs 1 week early. I’m now approaching my 4th week on 5mg (so 7 weeks Mounjaro in total) and I still do not have any supression or side effects, I’ve lost a total of around 2lb in 7 weeks but I do feel it’s because I’ve been trying harder rather then it being from Mounjaro. Now I’m not in this for big weekly weight losses, as for me I can’t keep battling with my weight as o have done so since a teen (nearly 30 years). Slow and steady is key for me and the reason I’m looking to GLP1 medication for help is because I’ve tried every diet, calorie counting and even weight loss pills (not good or safe, ABSOLUTELY do not recommend) and after seeing so many positive reviews about this medication I hoped this would be the missing piece to the puzzle. I’ve done plenty of reading up and I do understand that it can take 8-12 weeks to get in to your system to create a steady state but as for some people who are slow responders they seem to still be feeling something and losing weight. I understand that there are some people who respond really well, within hours and see good weight losses (my husband being one of them 1st loss in 3 weeks). I understand there are factors for example if the heavier the weight the quicker it may come off for some. I’ve increased protein and I drink about 3l water anyway. I’m not comparing myself to others that have done really well as I know this helps everyone differently but I’m just so worried that I don’t hear stories like mine and worries me that it’s not going to work. I’ve ordered a 7.5mg pen to start next week, who knows if this will work better but I have set myself the task of sticking with this one upto around 20 weeks and if no suppression or results then I will stop, it’s not cheap mediation to keep up when there’s not benefits. Has anyone had an experience of this NOT working. Can MOUNJARO just not work for some people, can some people not respond to GLP1 medications at all:
any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi Gloryslife, I'm in the same position as you. Started MJ 5 weeks ago and currently into week one of 5mg. I have no side affects (shouldn't complain really) but no weight loss worth talking about either (1-2 lbs.) that keeps fluctuating. I only have a slight suppression but not enough to stop me intaking too many calories to loose weight. like yourself I've been battling weight for years and struggling to loose a couple of stone despite trying all diets. It's very disappointing that this beacon of hope isn't working for me while I'm reading all the success stories from their week 1. I suppose I need to go on a calorie restrictive diet along with the MJ but sure I could have done that without spending all that money. I'll see how I get on with the remainder of the 5mg. I've read it can take 3 months for it to really start working for some so maybe we are just those types, me being post meno doesn't help either I guess Good luck anyway and I hope you start to see results soon. x

Some don’t until they r on much higher doses, just ensure u r following the instructions so low carb/keto diet.

Orangesandlemons77 · 19/11/2024 10:54

What kind of thing are you eating daily?

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 16/06/2025 14:35

You are definitely not alone and I have read of similar stories. I would say maybe you should give it 6 months and see if it is having an effect. As you can tell from my username, this was my fear!!

That said, though, Eli Lily have stated that it doesn’t work at all for about 15% of people. 🤞 you’re not one of them!

@CH1968 Yes, you need to go on a calorie restrictive diet to lose weight. MJ is there to support that but doesn’t make you lose weight on its own. If you have ‘slight’ suppression are you feeling any more full at meal times? Have your food cravings decreased? These are the ways MJ helps you stick to a deficit.

endzone · 16/06/2025 15:48

2.5mg is not a loading dose, it’s a starter dose.

what are you eating? That dictates weight loss

Foreverm0re · 16/06/2025 15:50

It’s quite common for 2.5 not to have much effect for some people.

mamabeeboo · 16/06/2025 15:56

Reiterating what someone above said, that there is a percentage of people this doesn't work for.

Questions for you to answer or just to think about - do you track your intake? Are you in a deficit? What are you expecting from mj?

I've learned that mj doesn't give me suppression, it gives me satiety. BIG DIFFERENCE.

It doesn't stop me from eating or makes me feel full all the time, or puts me off eating etc. All it does is stops me from feeling hungry all the time. My stomach isn't rumbling just because I haven't eaten in 2 hours, like it usually would. Because I'm not hungry, I can make an objective decision to eat healthy food in smaller portions. That's all.

So I'd caution you on not to chase suppression as you climb the doses. It doesn't work like that for everyone.
