Why we lose weight !

I know people are saying that we lose weight on Mounjaro because we eat less but I DEFINITELY think there is more to it than this .

I've been watching my weight all my life so am very clued in on calories .
I've been averaging about 1200 -1500 a day and I've lost about a stone and a half quickly.

There is NO way , even if I had eaten like this , that I would have lost that weight if not on MJ. I might have lost a couple of pounds. If even !

So what's going on ? Does anyone agree ?

I know some people on this and I am not clear on what happens after the weight is lost. Is there something that helps you maintain or do you stop taking it. If you stop, does the hormone rebalancing go out of sync again and will this make you put weight back on, even if eating the extract same foods and calories?

@IMustBeInvisible There’s a lot of information in your post which I haven’t come across before. In the future it would be really helpful if you cited directly where you’re pulling information from, instead of a batch of links in a completely separate post, as it just helps others verify and research such interesting information.

For example I have been slim my entire life but gained weight between 2022-2024. I literally overate hence the weight gain. I used MJ for 4 months and got my BMI down to normal weight. The highest dose I took was 10mg. I don’t think the fact that I took 10mg suggests I have a hormonal imbalance at all. In fact I don’t think my hormones are out of whack as I was previously slim as opposed to being lifelong obese. So seeing your last 2 paragraphs caused me some concern and I’d love to research it further but can’t see the sources.

I feel this is not ok; no one is here to help you do research. If you wish to do research it is your responsibility and the poster was clearly not saying it applied to everyone but to certain individuals who may have had an underlying medical condition. For others, of course they just got fat and their bodies function effectively.

You can take if for life.

Also agree that asking for direct citations for mn posts is too much. It's a social media post, not an academic submission and the poster worded carefully and was clear to caveat what they wrote. They then went on to give some additional reading links, which was kind of them.

In terms of the long term prospects, was just relistening to a Zoe podcast with an obesity scientist and spotted something that didn't register the first time I heard it: there are compounds tested on animals now that 'cure' obesity in that they both trigger weight loss and, even after they are no longer administered, that weight loss is permanent. In animals. The scientist there wondered about whether they were the longer term goal for humans.

In terms of the original question, I also believe this is doing more than just appetite suppression. I've shared before that I have lost the same 50-70lbs in my lifetime, over and over again. I have records of all the attempts. I know how fast I lost weight before on what calories and I know that this time my loss is faster than ever, despite similar calorie numbers to before. Something has changed.

That’s interesting, apparently there are now eight drugs in final testing, and they are supposed to be better than mounjaro. And they are all racing to do a pill format. We really are at the beginning of this journey.

curing obesity must be the biggest medical advancement in decades, as with it, you reduce the instances of so many things, cancer, heart attack strokes, for so many people. Not all, and not everyone, but a huge reduction. So many health conditions that come due to obesity, although not exclusively to obesity, that by curing obesity, you by default reduce a large proportion of other issues for that population and for many developed counties, obesity is a large part of the population.

We really are at the beginning of this journey.

I think we are too. I think we're going to see incredible scientific progress in the next few years and I wonder if we look back in 10-20 years time and view obesity in the same way we view things like Smallpox: a disease of the past.

Witchyandtwitchy · 18/11/2024 14:00

Really interesting read about the advanced understanding of obesity and possible future drugs.

I’ve been loosing and gaining the same half stone for a good few years now AND finding my weight slowly creeping up!
All this despite a good healthy diet.

Started on MJ 2 months ago and I’m already over a stone and a half down! And feel much slimmer than I normally would at this weight.
Yes I am eating less, but not a massive amount less.
It’s definitely more than an appetite suppressant.

Glad I found this thread because I have been thinking exactly the same thing OP.
I used to be slim, and generally found it fairly easy to stay slim. Then I had to start taking a medication that is known for causing weight gain.
Try as I might I was unable to prevent 3 stone going on and completely unable to shed any weight at all by counting calories/healthy eating.
Along comes mounjaro and suddenly the scales are shifting. I'm eating about 1200 cals a day, exactly as I tried before without the mounjaro, but this time its working incredibly well and I'm over a stone down with ease.
