Suddenly vomiting after 5 months

Stuckinarut79 · 14/11/2024 18:42

Been taking Mounjaro without any big side effects for 6 months, lost 20kg stuck at 7.5ml all been so positive.
the last 3 weeks have been awful, some nights going to bed with indigestion, up every hour with burping and then vomiting from about 5am, it all comes up and then bile and retching for sometimes 3/4 hours. I have a day or two of this then better then comes back, l was sick again last night after a week of being ok.
ive been to the doctor, first thought diverticulitis and advised low fiber for a bit, tried that, went back as advised when it didn’t stop, second doctor disagreed with the first and said vomiting bug.
i seem ok if I stick to plain food, but a roast set me off and last night it was chicken bolagnsise so no real pattern. Yogurt, custard, cup of soup, chocolate toast and crisps, all fine.
anyone had anything similar? I’m sticking with plain again but the desire for fruit and veg is real! I just don’t know what to try next. I’ll keep a diary and go back to the doctors obviously if another episode, but just thought hive mind might have experience.

Maybe move down a dose to 5mg?

IMustBeInvisible · 14/11/2024 18:58

Have you thought of taking a break to see what happens? Did the doctors know you're on MJ - if so, did they say anything about it or taking a break? Have you spoken to the MJ prescriber to see what they'll say and if they'll advise taking a break from MJ to see if the symptoms will ease a bit? That's what I'd do. A week or 2 break won't get you started from the beginning if you need to go back on. You can always restart on 7.5mg or 5mg at least after that if needed.

Ilovethewild · 14/11/2024 19:02

Op, I had a tough time on 7.5, vomiting, dizzy, not myself. Stopped taking it but the symptoms continued. Was prescribed Lansoprazole which worked a treat (had full bloods as well),
after a day I felt so much better and restated after a week on 2.5, going ok.

Stuckinarut79 · 14/11/2024 19:04

It’s my third month of 7.5mg so the doctor ruled out Mounjaro being a factor as I hadn’t newly started or gone up a dose. I feel as it slows down stomach emptying and I’m sick 10/12 hours after a meal it could be related, I was going to see if the pharmacy had any advice - as it’s all been great I wasn’t sure how good they’d be advice. so that’s good to know.
also interesting about stopping for a bit, I thought I’d seen comments about people stopping and it not then working as well. It’s done wonders for my mental health the freedom from the food noise is much more important to me than the weight loss and the idea of going back to how I was is not something I want at all.

I honestly could have written this.
I started in may. Some side effects but not too bad. Went up the doses but stuck at 7.5 as I found the tiredness was getting me down and I have a busy job and small children to deal with.
2 weeks ago I took my usual 7.5 jab and I had d&v for 3 days. I assumed it was a stomach bug. So I took my jab as normal the following week and the day after, d&v again for a few days. I'm now scared to have my jab again. I'm thinking about coming off. I'm not at goal weight but I also can't be doing with d&v and the exhaustion it's causing me. I've lost nearly 3 stone so I'm happy with that.
It's been so strange how I had minimal side effects but this came out of nowhere.

summerlovingvibes · 14/11/2024 19:58

I'm on 12.5, have been on this dose for maybe 3-4 weeks.

Last week I was so so sick for 6 days. Never known anything like it. But exactly the same as you - sick, fine, sick again 24-36 hours later, fine, nauseous, fine, sick, fine, sick etc.

I put it down to a bug but now it's making me wonder ...

olympicsrock · 14/11/2024 20:00

I’ve got a bug. Been on MJ for 6.5 months and 5mg for 3.5 months. Had had vomiting this week which I think is a combination of MJ plus the bug. Wonder if yours is the same

FlappingMadly · 14/11/2024 20:14

I suppose you’re varying where you inject?

Redlightbulb · 14/11/2024 23:02

I’m on week 14. 7.5mg and for the last few weeks I have vomited my evening meal in the middle of the night the day after the jab. I am largely fine the rest of the week. I don’t think my stomach likes the delayed gastric emptying. It’s like it has become more sensitive to it over time. Planning to drop down half a dose and hope it improves. I have been prescribed some Lanzrapole and may start using that if the lowered dosage doesn’t work.

CloversAreTrumps · 15/11/2024 19:33

Only 5mg, 10mg & 15mg are maintenance doses. I wonder if they excluded 7.5mg from this list for this reason?

SilenceInside · 15/11/2024 19:34

No, it's just to do with which doses people stayed on during the research trials, so that's what there is data on.

LadyGabriella · 15/11/2024 19:41

It delays gastric emptying. This is well known to cause vomiting.

Taking drugs for weight loss long term is not a great idea

Taking drugs for weight loss long term is not a great idea

Can you expand on why you think that?

Redlightbulb · 15/11/2024 20:09

I used to get bad acid reflux during the night after a binge. Which sometimes resulted in vomiting. I haven't binged in months, but I think that whilst on MJ, overtime the delayed gastric emptying is causing my stomach to want to overproduce acid. Maybe it thinks I am binging again (especially the day after injecting when the concentration of MJ in my blood is high) If anything I want to move up a dose next month as the suppression is wearing off but I can't until the reflux is under control.

Do enlighten us all please, especially your benefit / risk analysis of Mounjaro use vs staying severly obese?

FlappingMadly · 15/11/2024 22:45

Getting back to the subject after SnowFrog’s interruption, are you getting up to walk around after eating? This is advised.

CaptainCabinetsTrappedInCabinets · 15/11/2024 22:53

There is a nasty kowasaki noroviris doing the rounds

Just go on a normal diet! Someone died after taking these drugs

Compelling evidence. Nobody as yet has ever died from morbid obesity... oh hang on.

Thousands of people have died from Covid vaccines and yet millions of vulnerable people are given yet more of them every year because the benefit outweighs the risks.

Oral semaglutide has been used for diabetes treatment for a few years and is available on the NHS, it's as effective as the injection (Ozempic and Wegovy) and has the same side effects. 10 people have died from compounded semaglutide - not made by the approved manufacturers. That's the problem not the drug itself.

I never thought of that!!! All these years of obesity could have been avoided if I’d just gone on a diet 🤦‍♀️

Redlightbulb · 19/11/2024 11:58

For anyone that cares.
I injected myself on Sunday at the same strength but did it a few hours earlier in the day and used my thigh (1st time using a different injection site other than my tummy) and I am pleased to report little acid reflux and no vomiting in the middle of the night. It may have been a fluke but I will do the same next week.

Stuckinarut79 · 19/11/2024 14:57

I waited 8 days to give this weeks dose and I’ve also gone down to 5mg and takeing an antacid I’m now watching and waiting I had salmon broccoli and noodles last night - the first “proper” meal I’ve kept down in almost a month.
i had a call with a 111 doctor ha had odd symptoms in the night in Friday and he was great - very much don’t be fobbed off by gp and these are the things they can check if it continues. So waiting and seeing.
the change of site is interesting I’ve only alternated sides of my tummy, so will consider this as well.
thsnk you all for sharing your thoughts/experiences.
this drug has changed my life, ignoring the weight loss the absence of food noise has been amazing and the impact on my mental health has been life changing so I continue to be grateful for MJ despite this blip

Good news op. The advice is to vary the injection site.
