Would weight loss jabs work for me?

Coffeenbiscuit · 13/11/2024 18:21

Those with experience of weight loss jabs, I'm just wondering if you could tell me if you think it would work for me.

I work out a lot, the gym is really my only 'hobby'. I'm super into fitness, I love it. I feel really strong and I'm not 'fat', but I definitely have some weight I'd like to lose as I eat way too much. I'd go as far as to say I'm addicted to junk food. I really struggle with food, even if I'm eating a salad it will be such a huge portion that it's not healthy. Going to the gym 5 times a week definitely helps me not to get to the 'very fat' stage, but I know I could lose a few kg to feel confident and to be healthier.

Would it work for me, just to lose a few kg? I see stories on here of very dramatic weight loss which is amazing and I love that it's helping people, but I think I'd only want to lose about 5kg max

Couldn't agree more, people like that are giving the drug a bad name, along with those fucking about with the doses, talking about how many clicks to get different doses. Just take what you're bloody prescribed!

Oops, quoted the wrong post, it should have been @TheShellBeach re lying to get the drug

KrankyKumquat · 14/11/2024 07:49

Op, you're not even overweight, let alone obese as you've got a BMI of 25 but describe yourself as muscular. If you're so in to fitness, why don't you just ask a trainer about what you can do differently to tone your body and for exercises which focus on 'problem' areas?

WLI are very serious medications, intended for obese people who are experiencing or at risk of significant health issues, even death, due to their obesity. They're not for healthy, very fit people who just want to lose a few pounds out of vanity.

There's no problem with counting clicks. The click charts just give you a dosage that you can finetune. On my doctor's advice I am counting clicks with a large pen as small pens are currently unobtainable in my country. It's also very useful if you want to go to .75 instead of jumping from .5 to 1.

Why do you think it's dangerous?

Lastonightadjsavedmylife · 14/11/2024 08:37

How can anyone be into fitness and even consider injecting themselves with a very serious prescribed medication without even taking a few mins to google it. It is all over the news and media.

I honestly think some posters don’t even watch the news, they just read mumsnet or watch tiktok , see posts or reels on the injections and think ooh I fancy a bit of that.

and the lack of basic biological knowledge is dismaying. Even logically you’d think most people would know losing weight on the jabs is like losing on any diet, jabs don’t magically make you lose muscle. Anyone losing weight will lose muscle if they don’t exercise and their protein intake is too low. The jabs are irrelevant. They don’t target muscle loss. Everyone losing weight to maintain muscle needs to exercise and eat enough protein.

its really worrying that people give so little thought and have so little knowledge.

@Lastonightadjsavedmylife
I'm in two minds - op is either a troll or a very young person, possibly with an ED, who is fishing for info to get WLI illegally, using language (eg food noise) picked up on SM.

I find it hard to believe that anyone who is seriously into fitness and lifting, like this op, has no understanding of basic physiology, has no access to a trainer for diet advice, doesn't understand that they're hungry because they're exercising and their muscles need fuel, and has managed to completely miss the prescribing criteria for this drug, yet has found their way to this community. All very sus.

I've never lied to get MJ.

25, but I don't tend to take much notice of that because I lift weights so I have a lot of muscle (which weighs much more than fat). My bfp is around 27% so definitely room for improvement although not terrible

And muscle doesn't weigh more than fat

3luckystars · 14/11/2024 16:11

I think you would be mad to do it for the sake of 5kg you could easily lose that yourself.

Junk food is totally addictive but after about 3 days you get used to not having it, I think you can totally do it.

I promise I'm not a troll, just somebody with (what I believe to be) disordered eating habits that of course I've tried very hard to change. If I can lose it easily, why can't the people who have a BMI of 30+? We have the same disordered eating and struggles around dieting. I'm just 'lucky' that my addictive personality also extends to fitness, which keeps my weight to what it is.

Anyway, now it's been explained that I'm not eligible, that's that. I could have googled that but I didn't. I guess I got carried away reading all the success stories on here and that's why I asked here instead of doing my own research (which I have to admit would have been easy for me to do, and I feel a bit silly for not doing so!)

I wanted to come on here and say I get it. I do find it hypocritical when others are saying things like "you don't need WLIs, you could easily that 1 stone etc". If it was that easy I'm sure most of us wouldn't be here. I wasn't always obese. It only happened over the last 4 years. But I have always struggled with maintaining weight and food noise (which has been debilitating). If I could have easily lost that first half stone when I gained it then I would have. But then it was one stone, I couldn't easily lose that either. And then 2st, 3at, 4st etc. And then suddenly I was obese. I was so trying all those times ro lose the weight or just maintain and not gain anymore, but I couldn't. Just like I now have less 1 stone to lose now, and I am no longer obese. If someone said to me you could easily just lose that without the WLI I would be so upset, because I know I cannot! I am prepared to stay on these injections long term because of not just the weight loss but how they have improved my quality of life by removing debilitating food noise. I understand there is a criteria for prescribing, and I don't condone or reccomend people try to obtain these drugs by lying, BUT I completely understand the desire and curiosity for non-obese people who still struggle with their weight to want to switch that food noise off and improve their lives. I think more compassion and understanding would go a long way, rather than saying things like "you could easily lose that 1st". Because they can't. They've tried. They are probably trying every single day.

Hello op,
There is quite a lot of research now that indicates processed food is addictive. So maybe make a plan for the week ahead and aim for food that looks as if it came from a farm and use as well flentils, chickpeas, quinoa, beans etc . A few weeks in you’ll feel so good and won’t want the processed stuff. If you’re exercising so much fuel your body!

Lastonightadjsavedmylife · 15/11/2024 07:24

I absolutely get the desire to take the drugs just to lose a stone, most folks would be tempted, to get the body they wish, when younger.

I do not get the not watching or reading the news, not googling to understand them, having no idea they were for obese people, etc, it is very hard to not know that. Very hard indeed.

Thank you, I actually love whole foods but I struggle with time also. I'm currently working 13 hour days (small business owner) so it's hard to find the time to cook. And even if I am eating healthy 'real' food my portions are massive (or if I give myself a small portion I have to have seconds). That's the thing I find really hard to control

Thank you, you get it! That's what I'm worried about. For now it's only 5kg, but maintaining this weight is hard enough and I'm worried it will spiral, especially as I get older. Obese people always started out 'just a little bit overweight' and I'm sure they didn't want to be!

Of course it does.
If not, people whose BMI is normal (like you) can have very serious side -effects.

My BMI on starting was 49.

It's now 36.

How are you doing with your weight loss? I'm about to take the leap i think. My BMI has just topped 50
