For anyone who has used a syringe for the bonus dose...

I am going to get some syringes for fear of breaking my pen, I've used hard twist twice successfully but always worry I may break it and I don't want to waste any liquid.
So my question is do you put the needle all the way in your skin, some people say go at an angle some don't.
I've watched a few videos and they just Jam it in..
If I get 6mm needles that's bigger than the pen needle, does it matter?

I use a syringe for the reason you cite. I insert at 45degrees roughly but only put in approx depth of the pen needles. Just in case it goes in too deep. It's been very straightforward.

morbidcuriosity · 13/11/2024 15:50

Ah ok, so u don't press the whole 6mm in, just 4mm like the pen needle.

Everyone says it's very simple but to be its quite nerve racking as never done before, the pen was easy, can't really go wrong..

I have 8mm syringes and initially went in at an angle, but go straight in now. I use 6mm needle tips on the pen too. I get an itchy reaction at the injection site and a longer needle is thought to help prevent this. (It is slightly improved, so think it could be a factor.)

As I understand it, 12mm or more is still subcutaneous, so figure 8mm is fine.

Thank you. Where did you buy yours from?

I bought FMS Micro Syringe 32G 8mm 1ml from ukmedi, £8 approx for 10

I find these are not only useful for the bonus dose but also if the pen jams as a couple of mine have. I just use them like the actual pen needle

I prefer 45 degrees - less likely to hit a small blood vessel. You can buy syringes on-line. I got on Amazon - they show up in your order & purchases account as "measuring tools" so if a shared account it is quite discrete. Remember to be very clean in handling needles and injections, but it is very easy and quite safe - people with diabetes have been doing this every day for decades with no problems. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0CGDMPDB5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

To be honest I think you’re overthinking this. It doesn’t really matter about a specific angle of insertion or the exact mm you insert. Just approach the injection like you would with the pen cap needles.

Swissrollover · 13/11/2024 18:12

I also got mine from Amazon, and took my chance on authenticity. They aren't marked as medical syringes on the listing, but as seen in the photos and on delivery are all individually packaged and labelled as Sterile with CE marks. They also came with medical alcohol swabs.

Some prefer to buy from medical suppliers, as deemed safer.

Thanks everyone.
Overthinking maybe.. just heard people say careful you don't go too deep and make sure it's at an angle etc.. so didn't know how to with the needle being longer.

Think I may give it a go next Monday as last of my 5 pen and gonna go up to 7.5 I think.. not 100% sure yet though..

But do you know how large a mm is? It’s barely noticeable. It’s like you think it’s triple the size!

for what it’s worth, I use med express. They used to send me 4mm needles with my pens. They now send 5 or 6mm needles. It’s not a big deal

Redlightbulb · 14/11/2024 15:19

The ones I use are 12mm and I go syringe deep straight on!
But then I do have a lot of blubber.
The needle is a bit scary compared with the tiny ones. As I get to a lower weight I might angle it a bit or not put so much in.

morbidcuriosity · 14/11/2024 15:42

Thank you. I have a lot of blubber too, and after reading everything here.
You guys are all fab.
I'm gonna get 8mm ones online and I'm confident now I will be fine..
